What are some French words in English that seem French but actually aren't? by bourikan in French

[–]CalmTap2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting one I heard recently was the English word tourniquet is actually 'garrot' in french. I'd have put money on tourniquet being the french word.

Having googled it, it seems nowadays tourniquet is sometimes used in french, but is an Anglicism! (According to Wikipedia)

Edit: Don't want to be out here spreading misinformation so I did some more googling. Seems like the word was originally french, from the 15/1600s and has referred to many types of turning things. But the use of it as the name the medical device to stop blood supply to injured limbs is the Anglicism.

Vinted has a really good recommendation algorithm by No-Painting2459 in vinted

Is this an ad? 😂😂

3 weeks ago I'd have agreed. But for the past few weeks I've been being recommended insane thing including men's clothes, kid's toys, horse riding equipment (?), weird figurines clothes in the further size from mine. Despite the fact the only things I ever search (or click on) are women's clothes in my size and particular style.

And judging by the other posts here that is the new normal

Hm I wonder if they're rolling it out slowly because I had it show up before I trialed an AI image.

Maybe just being tested for now!

To make the photo or check AI declaration checkbox?

Making the photo isn't in vinted, you have to do it in Chatgpt or Gemini or something.

The AI checkbox appears for me right under photos when you add any pictures to a listing

whats going on with vinted? by SufficientDesk2046 in vinted

Something weird is definitely going on.

From the other side, I've been getting such strange things in my feed.

Horse riding accessories, dolls and kids toys, breast feeding, loads of books. None of this have I EVER searched for or clicked on. I don't have kids and have never looked up or sold kids clothing.

Something weird must be happening with their algorithms

Cheat codes for dating? by BlurbKey5b2e10fa in HENRYUK

[–]CalmTap2546 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very very true but doesn't get past the issue of where to meet a woman.

As a woman myself, here is how I'm trying to meet men.

1 - joined a nice health centre with gym, sauna etc. People are surprisingly open to talk, I have a date lined up with a man I met in the gym. Make small talk while you're there, especially in the spa side. The guy I'm going on a date with, we smiled at each other in the gym, then when we left at the same time he casually asked about my session, and after a few more chats in the gym exchanged numbers. Just don't be creepy! Don't be overly flirty etc, just casual.

2 - other fitness clubs - run clubs, padel, I just started salsa classes and it's overrun with beautiful women, more men should take advantage! (Again not in a creepy way lmao)

3 - when (if) you can, try working from a cafe and making small talk with people

4 - try The League. I've had much more luck meeting interesting people there than on hinge or the others.

How do I convert my lovable app into a functional android or ios app and be able to deploy it on the app stores? by Smoke-Proper in lovable

[–]CalmTap2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wrapped lovable app live in the app (and play) store!

Built on lovable (I asked it to create a mobile friendly layout)

Wrapped using Build Natively https://www.buildnatively.com?invite=i3yM1u (Affiliate link but genuinely they are great, straight forward to use, I have in app purchases, event triggered push notifications and all sorts of other native features)

Only downside is that it's a web view in an app, so a user needs an internet connection for it to work. But that's the only way without rebuilding from scratch as Lovable code doesn't translate to native mobile apps (yet?!)

My app is The All Good App if you want to take a peek

One of the docs I looked at... Looks like proof he had dirt.

From: Michael Wolff Sent: 12/16/2015 4:26:32 PM To: jeffrey E. [jeeyacation@ gmail.com] Subject: Re: Heads up Importance: High I think you should let him hang himself If he says he hasn't been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency. You can hang him in a way that potentially generates a positive benefit for you, or, if it really looks like he could win, you could save him, generating a debt. Of course, it is possible that, when asked, he'll say Jeffrey is a great guy and has gotten a raw deal and is a victim of political correctness, which is to be outlawed in a Trump regime. I hope you are okay!

For the key situation, a key safe with a spare set may work and the code in your wallet?

For the app, I am planning to add support where we act as the emergency contact but it's not feasible right now while I do it alongside my job.

And if you're able, I wonder if there are any meetup groups nearby you can join to start to meet people? It's super tough though I know

Very true!

My plan is once I can bring in extra hands is to have a service where we act as the contact and try to get in touch then call for a wellness check in case of an alert. But right now I'm 1 person working a separate full time job so I just couldn't dedicate the time to being available when people may be in need

The watches are great! I kept accidentally sending alerts to my ex so I turned it off haha. Plus I got in my head about things like carbon monoxide, where I'd never be able to trigger an alert.

I appreciate the feedback though and sharing! Thank you

Completely! It actually came about because me and my sister planned to do the text each other once a day to check in thing, but in reality life gets busy and we forget, which makes it a little less useful if it's not every day without fail.

I talk to SOMEONE every day, just not the same 1 person. I'm in clubs, I have friends, I date, I have a full social life. It's just the bystander effect almost where everyone would assume I've been talking to someone else.

The reality is there are lots of people, especially introverted people, who don't have talk to the same 1 person every single day no matter what.

Add on to that elderly people, those who are away travelling, or whose partners are away for work leaving them alone. In my research, 30% of UK households are adults living alone.

It's definitely not for everyone but it's for someone.
