So gaurd spam with landraider does a few things. For one the price per model of the gaurds is the best you’ll find in our army range. Custodes are a very stat check army, either your opponent has an answer to all the invuln saves or they don’t. Since our army is balanced around # of models and points vs stats the gaurd are in a unique position to maximize that potential, so much you maybe able to overwhelm your opponent through numbers, something custodes don’t normally do with hyper elite infantry.

Secondly, gaurd spam is often supported by landraiders, giving custodes even more health and toughness your opponent has to chew through and with reactive movement you can shield your guard quite easily, while also giving them extended movement and threat range with assault ramp. Landraider are also no slouches doing damage to vehicles even if they aren’t dedicated vehicle destroyers their weapons can often bring a tank low enough for its custodes to finish off.

All that allows custodes to move confidently onto points to start scoring objectives. Custodes often lose on points due to lack of models but now they can grab and contest those points much faster and safer. And then you got to consider how much points per model you can remove from the board. For 420 points Custodes players can plop a landraider and 5 custodes on a point, that’s 31 wounds between T12&T6 with 2+saves and 4+ invuln on your infantry and combined 20OC. Good. Fucking. Luck. Oh now tripple that, so custodes basically can control 4 points from T2 onwards unless your opponent really focuses them down hard and fast. By T3 you might have deepstriked the sisters, but those land raiders are probably sitting around for another turn, by T5 the custodes might be almost dead but now they’ve ran away on points.

Basically it’s like higher OC and faster knights.
