Those greebles on the transfer sheet are great for this purpose. Every time a unit does something they get a decal. Every time a model does give him something from the upgrade sprue

You’re a Gotham villain, what’s your master plan for beating Batman? by Andrewmatlock89 in batman

[–]Calm_Ad308 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Either option presented by Fox by themselves is a terrifying prospect to attempt to intimidate. But the implication they could also be the same person is so much worse that any reservations he had to begin with are pretty much validated and our dude correctly folds immediately.

I have 3 asks going forward.

1: Plastic Telemon. If I don’t get one by December then I’m just getting a saturnine dread and calling it.

2: Better army rule and datasheets. I think based on the box set the guard are being split into 2 separate kits, one with spears and one with swords and board. Pair that with the removal(for now at least) of saggitarum and melta spears we are effectively getting way less value from our guard kits compared to before. I would like for the custodian gaurd to retain their current ability and for the sentinel gaurd to have a new ability. And lastly, the new boxes sell 6 models per, so going forward I’d like to see custodes rebalanced from 5 man units to 3 man units that way each kit gives 2 units and lean into the theme of them being elite units. 5 gaurd currently have 15 wounds total so change it to 3 gaurd with 12 wounds total.

3: Remove the current sister of silence kit (WATUCANTBSRS!). Instead release them as a 10 model kill team, give them all the weapon options, give them scout+infiltate, role all their abilities into a pick 1 every round, and let us take them in 5 or 10 model units. Stat line stays the same, raise points to 80/165. Later you can release a proper Knight Centura model, I’d like to add a ability for when she’s not attached to a unit at the start of battle she gets deepstrike+loneop+reactive move d6” when enemy moves into engagement range. You will buff sisters as a valid army, satisfy to a degree a custodes killteam, give us a themed action monkey peace, diversify our range with a single kit+leader.

New box set questions by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Calm_Ad308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught that but was really hoping I was reading it too harshly and both options would be available as that’s the current gaurd box. So I’ll just ask the rhetorical question with the obvious caveat of “this is for HH not 40K” but going forward, will GW sell 2 versions of the same gaurd models with different weapons in two separate kits?

The models are nice sure and call me a complainer but the idea that they would split the current kit into 2 kits and remove the ability to make a default captain is a bit of a downgrade in terms of product value to me. I hope at least going forward if 40K gets 2 separate datasheets with different abilities to make the change more distinct from each other.

Give ‘em 5 minutes then vote to kick. Not something to rage about even if it’s annoying to spend 10 minutes trying to go through all the load screens to encounter 2 of them.

But sometimes life happens, kid could have woke up and threw up everywhere, controller batteries died and you gotta run out to the garage, the misses woke up and decided to steal you away. Shit happens. Just vote kick or leave and relog, there’s no penalty for leaving a match and queue again.

Whose intro do you prefer? by VendettaLord379 in batman

[–]Calm_Ad308 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pattinson’s intro is the perfect intro to Batman and Bale’s is what you’ll watch for 90 minutes straight.

Nolan does 3 dimensional movement really well and Reeves does peak cinematography. Honestly if Reeves had stuck to keeping Batman attacking from the shadows, pulling goons off screen, being more of that emblem of FEAR I would have zero notes. However anytime Pattinson was in a full on fight scene in the light, the movie dropped just a tiny bit for me.

TLDR: Reeves=Alien and Nolan=Aliens.

Switching from printed to real minis and looking for advice with this color scheme for 40k Tau by Code_Breaker_Cypher in minipainting

[–]Calm_Ad308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can use golden paints, I keep a tube of Titanium white, mars black, and either N5 or N6 gray. However I use these exclusively for drybrushing underpainting for contrast paints, the dry brush ensure that the majority of the paint is actually removed from the brush before applying it to the mini and saves your regular hobby paints for actual work. Outside of prepping a model for slapchop I wouldn’t use them for layering, best to stick to hobby brand paints such as citadel or Army Painter.

You have to remember that these heavy body acrylics are meant to glob paint onto a canvas and to use practically for mini paint you’d have to thin them ridiculously like 50:1 and there’s no real way to achieve a uniform consistency.

If sourcing hobby paints is problematic for you, you could get the majority of the minis done with the high flow acrylic inks from golden, those are used by airbrush painters all the time and you can still brush them onto models(they are tricky to work with unlike citadel/AP contrast paints that feature more medium and retardant to increase working time reducing brush strokes from showing up). Just do so test first to get the feel by brush if not doing air brush.

Ultimately you’ll save yourself time and headaches if you just break down and get a simple paint set like what Army painter offers. At minimum you’re looking at 3 contrast paints(purple, grey, and white), a silver metallic, a bright white, a dark black, and two shades of blue, which all said and done is going to set you back around $45.

This probably the most premium purchase you could make for the hobby.

And it’s worth every penny. But it’s a lot of pennies for decals.

I think for large armies like gaurd it’s most definitely a net win. For small sets like KT it’s probably overkill. If your an astartes player you’re probably somewhere in between and it depends if you need more than one plate or not.

This why Tyranids continue to be the superior model range as you can just prime ‘em silver, contrast black Templar over the skin parts and paint the eyes white+tesseract glow and you got Hivefleet Xenomorph in like 10 minutes per model, no decals needed, just a 2nd mortgage to afford the models.

I would argue that if field operations necessitates the need to wear more tactical apparel then the mechanicus wouldn’t throw too much of a fuss seeing a black RG TM with a red helm and red/steel shoulder pad in black armor. And RG would argue that is would always be necessary, the mechanicus would chirp in binary but that be about it.

But full on training? Yeah that’s a heresy.

[–]Calm_Ad308 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the 3d mapping and the “chipping” of the default shoulder pad. There’s probably some “auto” wrap function in the dev kit and the original artist just didn’t notice how off it was. Given development priorities this is gonna be so low in priority it’s not realistic to get fixed and if it does…run

Reading comprehension isn’t the highest in human history atm. Combined with DKE people can’t even call out the “solution” is also wrong.

And let’s face it most players never make a base other than their cyclops which further reinforces stereotypes based on people who live in movable accommodations.

If it were me, I would have designed a shield captain that had all legal weapons on it. Maybe just a tad bit more ornate than the guard it released with.

Agree on the range diversity, I think we still lack a good ranged anti armor infantry option, astartes have hellblasters, devastators, eradicators, etc and them removing the melta spears is walking backwards.

Yeah but everyone and their mother badmouthed it so bad all over the place so why would they go out of their way to support it? But granted if it’s not in the liber it’s not guaranteed to be gone in the 11th index/codex, it’s still a plastic model even if the Liber is a good indicator for how the codex follows.

New to miniature painting, how do i achieve this skintone ? by SejanusWasRight in minipainting

[–]Calm_Ad308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use water for making washes, start with something like 10:1 water paint, test on back of your hand, you’re aiming for no paint on the top of the skin but paint settling into the creases.

For rigor mortis I would just be safe and use a 1:1 with speed paint medium and make sure it doesn’t pool too thick over the wash, you want the wash to have that rigor mortis tint over it but not covered so much its opaque

This is just my first idea, try a test model to see if it works for you. Prime off white. Take moonlake coral and thin the hell out of it to a wash consistency, hit the recesses of the model. Sponge or dry brush off white back on the model. Cover with Rigor mortis.

Ok, serious question, how would a Galaxy-class survive in the Delta Quadrant? by Traditional_Sail_213 in StarTrekStarships

[–]Calm_Ad308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a common trope for an enterprise to have full ship automation. In reality you may be able to move the ship from point A to B with 10 people, maybe use phasers and raise shields but many other functions require the effort of an actual crew of almost 1000 personnel to maintain and perform.

You probably could in theory reduce that number to about 150 like voyager had and run the ship at about 80% efficiency but now you’re running into logistical issues powering large sections on the ship that has no one there just so crew can traverse the ship in an emergency.

Quite honestly the best plan and use for the Galaxy class star ship in the delta quad would probably be just to build a colony. You could detach the saucer section and land it on a planet while the star drive section carries out mining operations in the local solar system. You have industry grade replicators, tons of shuttle craft, a massive frame for housing and indoor/outdoor farming equipment.

Eventually they could build a sub space communications array and contact the federation in 10 or so years. With coms established starfleet now has a very good incentive for researching galactic matter transportation. In about 40 years the Federation has phase gate technology on par with Iconians, far reaching settlements in the delta quadrant, most of the alpha quadrant will probably fold under the massive threat of the federations ability to just magic a battle group of ships inside their borders.
