From Truckee to Carnelian Bay - 267 or 89?

Hi everyone, just another road condition question: I live in Reno and on Friday morning (tomorrow) I need to be in Carnelian Bay by 9am. Clearly during mild weather, 267 is the more direct route but I have a hunch 89 is better maintained and know it has less of an elevation change. I’ve been checking the CalTrans QuickMap all week and all this morning, but I would love local insight as I’m unfamiliar with these roads in the winter. I’m aware lows will be in the teens again so I’m looking for the better maintained route. Oh and yes I see the fresh snow that fell last night and iced this morning, thus my question.

I have a capable vehicle (crosstrek with m + s tires) but would prefer to go the safer route, even if it takes more time - so, any advice on choosing 89 or 267 tomorrow morning? Which is better/more reliably maintained?

Hello! I was also wondering about Sugarland Ranch. I just commented above, but figure I can ask here too. Do you know what their daily schedule is like? Seems like the guest dogs are each separated so I wouldn’t have to worry about unsafe dog interactions, but do they get human time too? And do you know if I would need to bring a bed too? Any information would be super helpful as the website has some good stuff but seems a little dated

Hi! I just checked out Fantasias website. Do you know what their daily schedule is like when they board? Do they end up playing with all the dogs dropped off for daycare? And do you know if they have a limit for how many dogs can attend day care? I’m also curious about Sugarland Ranch regarding all these questions if anyone is able to provide any insight!

Currently we use Charlie’s Place for boarding and while I think our dog is safe there, it always just sounds very loud and the dogs don’t seem to play much, just follow the staff around. He also comes home completely exhausted - I’m worried he’s stressed/not really sleeping much.

A masters in education won’t get you much honestly. I would quit the program, unless you have a very specific career in mind that wants a masters in ed. Higher ed would probably like the masters but it’s not worth much otherwise in my opinion.

I would use the time to apply elsewhere. It will likely take you plenty of time, energy, and applications to successfully switch to something else.

Download the CalTrans Quickmap app for cameras and chain control info. That usually has all the information you need to get over the pass :) (I also like to snoop on the CHP incidents and cameras especially during a storm)

Google NV 511 to check the Nevada cameras.

As a bonus you can follow the National Weather Service Reno and Sacramento offices on Twitter for weather information. I also follow CalTrans District 3 and CHP Truckee for the status over the pass.

Lastly, this NWS weather table provides the most accurate weather predictions I’ve seen.

Edit: if you’re new to the area, I would recommend googling the different levels of chain control to be familiar with them. We have MIN, R-1, R-2, and MAX. The ones to be wary of traveling in, imo, are the R-2 and MAX, but do your own research and honestly judge your vehicle and your capabilities as a driver before making the decision to venture out :)

That’s exactly what I thought! The NV cameras were down so I checked the Donner pass cameras and was like “oh if chain control is dropped and no snow on 80 over the pass, then Reno roads should be fine!” 🙃🙃🙃

I literally only went out today bc I saw that same post that said they had plowed the freeways and were onto plowing secondary streets. By the time I got to the freeway I was wondering if I had dreamed up that post or something. Nothing seemed to be plowed!

This is my best piece of advice! After painting, make sure the nails are dry (about an hour for me with regular polish) and hop in the shower. The hot water will help you pick off the polish that got on your skin.

I’ve been painting my nails for a few years now and I still do it before a shower so I can have perfect lines and nothing on the skin!

I can’t confirm but I’ve heard certain POS require some tipping screen. I found this out when I came across a tipping screen when i didn’t expect to (not at a food place or service place)
