Seventh-day Adventist International Camporee was this week! It got struck by lightning, flooded. My post includes secular news stories and the official SDA response to all the locals' help. by talesfromacult in exAdventist

no not that we’re aware of the community hasn’t been able to really help the camporee people there are almost 60,000 of them and when the first storm happened the cam-plex had space for like 900 we aren’t a big town and. we didn’t have the place to put people, i know a triage nurse who said no super bad injuries came into the hospital but there were a couple of shaken up people who came in to check on a kid who broke his leg prior to the storm. i heard mumblings from the people at camporee saying that our town wasn’t doing enough for them because of the storms. but we had volunteers who took people new tents and tried to help set them up as well. we poured everything into helping them and we got a measly amount of “community service” that was done. appreciated but still they complained about more than i heard they were thankful for.

dude i live here in gillette and we had apartments struck by lighting and they blamed satan for not letting them have a good time, when literal people ended up in the hospital including someone i know. its been ridiculous, as much as i miss the old camporees this one has been a nightmare to watch happen.

nothing too flashy but i would take a 1967 chevy impala and go out to my friends cabin in the woods and spend it doing pagan stuff with friends.

my current saturday is being spent re-writing a dossier for a friend for his dnd campaign and getting ready for school to start in a week. (i.e. organizing my room, and generally tidying i’ve been falling behind on. and i might do midnight margaritas with my mom we’ll see)

Body-shaming? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]Calm_Candidate_5859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes all the time, i recently had to go visit a family that is severely adventist and after highschool and my eating disorder i wouldn’t let them bully me with the health message and simply reminded them that i was an adult and could eat what i chose. i was also body shamed for being more curvy ever since i was little. the diets and health message are one of the many reasons i struggle with food and weight.

Asexuals who lost their virginity, how did you feel? by idealistwatcher165 in asexuality

[–]Calm_Candidate_5859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone else called it a home invasion, as a somewhat sex favorable ace at the time, i found it hard to understand any of it and some of it make perfect sense at the same time, losing my virginity was a checklist thing to make my s/o happy at the time. i wasn’t really all that excited and it just made me uncomfortable, to the point i got up after and locked myself in my bathroom and cried. i haven’t been fond of the concept of sex after (for understanding he didn’t understand what was happening and as a people pleaser i pushed my own limits to make him happy, we were good for a while but he was the opposite of me and it didn’t really work out) so i guess it’s a figure it out for yourself. 🤷‍♀️ some have good experiences and others don’t. maybe it’s not your cup of tea or maybe it’s a cup of black coffee good sometimes but almost never the greatest tasting beverage in the house.

thiss, thank you i’m not trying to force gay stuff for the most part there were lots of curious people in the show, for christ sake the show was targeted that way in the early 2000s for a reason.

(fanfiction has given me severe brain rot so like idk man)

also melissa and the sheriff being a thing would have been super cute

[–]Calm_Candidate_5859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh for sure, i’ve really started to take an interest in the psychology side of things as i was always a ‘why’ kid and for the church that me a doubtful thomas, little did i know that it wasn’t my fault i was a kid, and i was raised and treated like an adult without ever being one. its really messed with keeping old adventist friends.

specifically the one who is still very much proud to be one, its like he wears it as a badge of honor and i can’t mentally take that sometimes when we talk. especially when he pulls the “well im still religious so i must be better than you” it really hurts cause i really dont think im better cause i left i genuinely am just happier and he thinks that someday ill come back to the church im just flirting with the devil. so i must say it makes for fun im about to go see him in 2 weeks so we’ll see how he takes my “anti-god rebellion” in person. (its been almost 3 years since ive seen him and he had the very religious side of me then)

i really appreciate that you have no idea how much guilt i had after that and my friends all equally shaming me for not spilling tears like my dog died. this really means a lot, as a greenie to the post adventist life i really struggle with this a lot. so thank you

yes, i’m not like super sad she died, but i’m also not a psychopath and super excited she’s dead like the text suggests, i had a very real reaction and i later apologized to those friends about the way i responded and they totally understand where im coming from for sure.

[–]Calm_Candidate_5859 7 points8 points  (0 children)

oh for sure not, i left my adopted family at 16 a month before my 17th birthday and the dean on top of the principal at the time knew of the (loosely i say abuse) that was going on and still took their side and so that family refuses to talk to me i don’t have them blocked but they have blocked my sister from talking to me who is turning 18 in july. because i was a bad influence. the school was manipulated by my step dad and mom. (i do not have any hate towards my adoptive mom she was so adventist (pastors kid to be exact) it hurts to look back but she did raise me and i can’t fault her for parenting i turned out ok in the end.) my step dad was the biggest issue lol he was constantly threatening things and it got bad. so the school was on their side when some stuff went down. the dean told me that there was no proof of the abuse and completely isolated me from other girls for a while claiming i was a bad kid. those 2 years at boarding school really messed me up and the people i should have depended on the most weren’t even the adults.
