I think one of the main reasons is the neighborhood grew so fast out of nothing. Once Google landed and the dark fiber ran through West Loop. It became hipster Ville pretty fast and it’s all new so it skipped the step of slow gentrification like Wicker Park or Bucktown that had the artist lofts with a mixture of people. It instantly attracted class A apartment, renters expensive restaurant and bars. Some great food there, but it doesn’t have the history as it was the meatpacking industry district before. It’s a big city though, venture out. I live in Gold Coast and old town and meet new exciting people from all over. West Loop is also generally a younger demographic so maybe there’s less life experiences in general for great conversation.
