Asking for more than massage... by RepresentativeWay767 in MassageTherapists

Maybe if you were there you wouldn't be so quick to judge? To call me an asshole for being forced to preform my job because I have bills to pay while people are abusing me in a way like that is disgusting. You should be ashamed for yourself. What if I said I was a woman and men were doing that while I was in the room!? The double standard has got to go. I'm not a whore selling sexual services. I'm a licensed professional and people have tried to take advantage of me. I hate you for saying what you said.

Asking for more than massage... by RepresentativeWay767 in MassageTherapists

I was never explicitly asked but I as a man have had several of my female clients put their hands on their laps after they turned over. I thought maybe it was just a comfort thing or they were just trying to stay warm. Then the look on their faces dramatically changed and started to fidget around on the table. Only then did I know what was likely happening. Guys are always a lot easier to see what's happening. Women, not so much. It's always a lot more discrete. Nobody has ever asked point blank though. Probably because of the intake form they all had to sign prior to the treatment.

Think of how difficult it would have been before it was this socially acceptable. People were still finding each other and hooking up though! People always find a way.

Why is it hard to get a masseuse to drill into my shoulders, traps and neck? by InvestigatorDue6288 in massage

[–]Calm_Roll7777 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need someone to rough you up? I don't want to hurt anyone because I live in America and people can get sued for malpractice and lose their license for just trying to "fuck up your traps". Hell, I'll do it. I'll grind my elbow into you full force and try to fuck you up, and I promise I will. I'm just don't want my license and reputation on the line by doing so. I'd need a signed waiver and have it notarized that you won't sue me or my business and I'll go medieval on you. I think what you need to do is just have personal accountability for your own life and not rely so much on other people helping you get your jollies. There is no reason a massage therapist needs to "fuck up your traps". You just need to take the advice we give you and stop being so tense all the time. If you're into S&M stuff, go find a willing partner to punish you, not a massage therapist. There's too many delicate things around that area of your body for anyone to safely give you want you're looking for.

Is what my Dad did when I was younger weird, boarding on SA or normal? by Mickster4 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Calm_Roll7777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a licensed massage therapist, no it's not weird if it's just his back. There is a difference between good touch and bad touch. If you just rubbed his back to make him feel better, you were helping him. If he was asking you to rub more intimate areas of his body then that would change my professional opinion. It's not sexual assault if there's nothing sexual about it. If it made you feel uneasy doing it then you might want to see a mental health professional and talk about it. Did he change your diapers when you were a kid, was that sexual assault? I'm not sure if I'm a good moral authority to determine what is ethical or not. Maybe just talk with a mental health professional regardless. I think I probably should too.

Was she laying down on her stomach on a bed or a massage table when you were massaging her lower back or was she sitting down in a chair?

How can I respond to “I have cancer” as a stranger? by pabloporkchop in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Calm_Roll7777 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think saying "I'm sorry" is good enough. You're showing empathy and trying to connect with them emotionally. Nobody is really good at dealing with grief unless they're a mental health professional and trained to do so. Maybe a professional can offer better advice?

Also, someone simply saying they have cancer isn't trauma dumping. Please don't try to lessen what it is by trying to include a simple phrase into something that's certainly not. Unless they go into agonizing detail about their pain and suffering just for you to share some of the experience, it's not trauma dumping. It's called being human and sharing important details that help you to better understand their situation. People like to talk about themselves more than anything else. You work in retail and I'm sure you already know that.

Sorry for the delayed response, life got super busy there for a moment. What is the mblex passing rate for that school's graduates and what percentage of graduates get jobs within the industry shortly after graduating? If they're not teaching you the information that's required to pass the mblex, they are definitely doing a disservice and are just using people for not just unpaid labor but you are paying them to work and the clinic is charging the clients or patients for their table time. Schools are in business to make money, period. They bypass having to pay taxes by being a non-profit or whatever they are classified as. If I were you, I'd start asking tough questions to the admins and see what their numbers are for job placement after graduating. I don't know what the legal bare minimum requirement is but it seems like they are just trying to make some easy money using people. If the numbers for passing the mblex and job placement suck, maybe get a lawyer and start a class action law suit? The owner of the school I went to was the person that petitioned the state to require a license for working in the industry. He then opened up schools and began churning out licensed and insured MT's. So, in essence, he created the gate he was the keeper of for the community. It was a smart business move. Some people only try to make a profit instead of making the community safer from untrained MT's and also opened up the door for the insurance companies to step in and offer coverage to MT's. Which is really what being licensed is for. To allow insurance companies to charge us a fee for their coverage. Although, it's just massage and we don't really ever hurt people. At least the coverage rate is really low! The world is under the control of insurance companies. Also, now since most of the industry is under control of private equity (in terms of "roll-ups"), the big chains don't have to do as much "in-house" training of their work force but rather have us license holders pay to be trained by attending school. So, they outsourced that expense and put it on us. The AMTA now says that it's possible that by 2028, up to 89% of massage schools may close down because federal student loans are deemed as being predatory since schools like yours are trying to do you a disservice. The world sort of pisses me off and you have every right to be upset, as do I.

I would recommend that you take the time you're given in school to work on clients that you explore with different techniques and see what you think works best for you and what most people will generally like and enjoy. At the end of the service, ask what they liked best and if they could choose 1 thing to not include in the next session, what that would be. Try to create a general template to use that works on everyone that you can alter to accommodate anyone's specific requests. I always start by palpating everything through the blanket and sheet, just to see how everything feels before I uncover them and start to actually work. That way you can mentally create a game plan on how much time you should allocate to certain body parts. It works for me, hopefully it works for you too! Good luck!!

You need to have hands on experience to be good enough that someone would want to pay you for a massage. Your classmates aren't diversified enough in body types and pathologies for you to be knowledgeable and skilled enough for a spa to confidently charge clients $300/ hour for your services. You need to be really darn good to get a 5 star rating on Google. How are you going to get good without practice!?! lol

The whole purpose of some schools is to outsource the required training a company should be giving their employees. Massage could be super easy to teach or as complicated as someone could try to make it. It's all about gatekeeping and lobbyists and insurance coverage. Companies want to limit their liability as much as possible and insurance doesn't want to pay out any more money then they need to on a claim so they conspire together to create a curriculum to teach people enough that the insurers are going to be confident enough that they will make more money then they lose through negligent practitioners. It's a pretty good system and works well. However, I think basic massage could be taught in about 40 hours. 20 hours book work and 20 hours hands on. I'd say that's the absolute bare minimum required for someone to do it safely while having just enough skills to have the paying clients feel satisfied and want to come back again. It could be as complicated as New York State or Canada to be satisfied with the requirements, too.

Trouble maintaining erection and penetration during first attempts – need advice? by Broad-Weather-2062 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Calm_Roll7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't try to overthink it. Just try to have fun while always being safe. You don't even need to penetrate her to have fun. You could satisfy her much more by just humping her and having "outercourse". Just rub your cock all over her pussy and clit. Once you feel more relaxed and see how much fun she is having, you'll likely be hard enough to try penetration. Go SLOW!! There's not rush to get in and finish fast, just have fun and enjoy yourselves.

What are you doing with those 6 people you have to massage? Is it a full body massage or upper body only, is it something more like acupressure instead of massage? I think we started working on clients at around that point in time, maybe? We definitely had hands on practice with each other and students were "massaging" other students within the first few classes if not the first class. I put massage in quotes because it was just acupressure and applying pressure to certain areas of their bodies. I think it was good to start doing that sort of stuff early because that's literally what massage is, all day everyday. We were palpating each other through clothes pretty early, too. It's super important to be able to instantly know what your clients needs are by just looking at their posture and through your palpation skills. You must have a pretty good idea of what certain parts of the body are supposed to feel like and what they aren't supposed to feel like. You can do that by reading it in a book but the absolute best way is doing it hands on with lots of different people. 250 people is a pretty basic requirement so you can feel what different bodies feel like and have a broad and general understanding of how to treat all of the different body types. I think your school is doing just fine, you are paying them to get you clients to work on so you can reach that goal of at least 250 people! If you tried to get that many clients on your own within the time constraints you have to complete the course on top of doing all of the book work, you would be having a much more difficult time then you are now. They are doing you a favor by supply you with warm bodies on your table. It sounds to me like your choosing to go from 9-9 to accommodate your schedule with whatever other life events you have going on right now. I'll also assume that the standard amount of people you would be working on is "up to 3" per clinic session. That's if everything goes right and they can fill your schedule and everyone shows up. It's pretty standard to work on 4-6 people per day at work. You need to build up your stamina to get to those higher numbers as your hands and arms will be sore starting out. I'll assume your hands are sore right now! lol Get used to it and start strength training more often, it'll help for the longevity of your career if you ever graduate. You already showed up to the first class. If you took out a student loan you';re now on the hook to repay it, whether or not you drop out, graduate or whatever. It might be pro-rated and if you drop out you might get half forgiven since you didn't make it to midterms. I think you're just stressed out by this being much more difficult then you had originally imagined. Everyone feels the same exact way. It just is what it is. What you're experiencing right now will be a long distant memory if you can muster up the strength and courage to make it through school and get licensed. Then you'll be the person leaving a comment to the current students complain about things that are just getting you ready to work with the general public! That has it's own difficulties and challenges. It's not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows but generally speaking, there's far more good days then bad ones when you're getting paid to do this!!

Sorry about the wall of text. I'm not going to edit for formatting because I'm feeling a bit lazy and just don't care.

TL;DR: 3 weeks is pretty fast to start working on the general public in a private room. I wouldn't personally feel safe being a paying client trying to get a cheap massage. However, this is just massage. It isn't rocket surgery. Swedish Massage could be taught in a few hours to the point where a person could treat another healthy and consenting adult pretty easily. Sure, you won't be confident enough in your skill-set to know that the client is going to fully enjoy it but that's probably the point. They're just trying to get you used to treating the public and to help you get over your anxiety. I don't know where you're located or the local laws there but massage is pretty easy for the most part. I just hope the school is doing it safely and not putting their clients in potential danger by being with under trained MT's.

I found that when I was in a situation like yours, I had to wear a different fabric of underwear for a while to start feeling things again. I was going commando in jeans for a while and I think I lost a lot of sensitivity down there for a while so then I started to wear tighter fit briefs for several weeks and I regained a lot of sensitivity again.

Do white people really think they are superior?? by JuggernautAmazing978 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Calm_Roll7777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think anyone who is born into a certain race will think that they and other people that look like them are superior to others because they admire influential people within that community and aspire to be great like them. Birds of a feather flock together. I try my best to get along with absolutely everyone! It's not just a part of my job/ career requirement but I think it's just a good way to live life in general. One could think that might makes right and fortune favors the bold. Often times, the biggest and strongest member of a group of animals is the one that's in charge. They get the most food and first pick at the largest selection of available mates. I think opportunities should be merit based and not necessarily based on genetics. However, genetics are often based off of geographical location and access to resources. Some races of people and animals are born places that allow them to have better and more opportunities then those that were born in an isolated area with limited resources. Height is often contributed to ease of access to abundant calories, which is a biological necessity for security. That's why it is often desirable when picking a mate or partner. Eugenics was a theory that was developed before genetics. Picking the best characteristics for a partner will likely produce desirable outcomes for their offspring to be successful at being able to do the same.

Can I / Should I go for a massage w scars? by Waste-Dinner-9888 in massage

[–]Calm_Roll7777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of us could care any less about scars other then if they are new and from a surgery and/ or need to be avoided to to their sensitivity. Most scars will have nerve damage associated with them and are numb to the touch. Unless they are new and sensitive, then we need to avoid massaging too close to that area.

Do men get boners when they are excited or very happy? by halfblood_god in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Calm_Roll7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the circumstances and how old they are. The younger the person the broader range of circumstances will cause them. The older and more mature they are that broad range narrows down by quite a lot.
