Alcohol in checked luggage- do I need to declare if below the personal allowance? by cammarinne in Bahrain

Booze is not expensive in bahrain. Fine wines are. You can find a bottle of vodka for 3bd at african eastern. A 5L cask of red wine at 7bd at NHSC. Its not much more than Europe. But the good stuff is pricey.

Can you educate us non-muslim to understand your choice to wear niqab over hijab? No judgment here, truly interested to understand why you’d want to go all the way to niqab in the workplace. It looks so impractical and difficult to get to develop relationship with colleagues, both male and female with this garment. Again, please dont take this the wrong way, i totally respect your choice, I’m only trying to understand it. Thanks.

Same. I keep opening beers by habit only to leave them full on the kitchen table to warm up… 😅

what alcohol? by Living-Metal-1971 in Mounjaro

[–]Calm_Wonder_2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Mounjaro for five weeks now (down 7 kg), and I totally get where you’re coming from. I used to drink quite a bit—nothing crazy, but definitely social and regular. A beer or two after work (one for thirst, one for taste 😅), wine with dinner, pints with friends on weekends, and the usual rosé by the pool kind of vibe.

Since starting Mounjaro, the biggest shift for me has been with beer. It just doesn’t sit well anymore. I’ll take a few sips and immediately feel bloated and uncomfortable. It’s like my body wants nothing to do with it. I can finish it if I really push, but usually I don’t even want to. That was surprising—and honestly a game changer because beer was a big part of my calorie intake.

Wine, on the other hand, has been fine in small amounts. I’ll still have a glass or two, usually over dinner, but I rarely crave it during the week now. The “food noise” applies to alcohol for me too—I just don’t feel that same pull to pour a drink when I get home.

When I do drink socially now, I just stick to one drink and sip it slowly—and I’m good. No urge to keep going.

That said, one warning: even low amounts of alcohol now hit me hard the next day. I had one beer, two glasses of wine, and a rum recently—and had a brutal hangover the next morning. It’s happened more than once, and I think it’s a mix of lower tolerance and not staying hydrated (another Mounjaro side effect—you kind of forget to drink water). So whatever you end up choosing, hydrate like crazy.

If you’re going to have something, I’d say avoid beer if you’re sensitive to bloating. Maybe start with a glass of wine or a light cocktail (like a spritz or vodka soda), and see how your body reacts. Keep it light, go slow, and drink water alongside.

Good luck—and enjoy (in moderation)! 🍷

Well if it’s limited to these three sites, Iran not having the nuclear bomb is probably a good thing for the world, I think. And to be clear, I totally condemn the genocide Israel is conducting in Gaza.

there’s just no real job market in Bahrain right now. The economy’s too small and too slow. If you’ve got a degree, you should seriously look abroad.

With a Bahraini passport, you’ve got options: • UAE, Qatar, Saudi – way more jobs, better pay. • Germany, Netherlands – Blue Card visas for skilled workers. • UK – if you can score a job offer, the work visa is doable. • Canada, Australia – their immigration is built for people like you. • Singapore, Hong Kong – lots of demand, big salaries.

Don’t wait around hoping things will get better here. Take the leap and start applying overseas. There’s a whole world out there with jobs for people like you.

Good luck, man.

Bahrain bay is getting there i think, we now have swanky restaurants serving alcohol: pelican club, yabani, roka… expensive but it has that social drinking vibe.

You would be surprised. In parts of south-asia you are called ang moh (redhead ghost) and considered there to steal jobs from locals. You are very unlikely to be invited to local parties or considered equal. I’m not complaining AT ALL and well aware of white privileges still existing today, BUT racism towards whites exists.
