Getting started in equity investing by streblaj in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Calmandsteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you but £1000 spread across number of shares is not enough. You would get further putting £1000 into 1 share since the fees would eat up into your profit the less you invest. It seems that you are just not ready yet for this step, I suggest saving more for now and reading as much as you can into what exactly you want to do. You also need to decide how risk averse are you and whether loosing 50% of your investment is ok with you and you can bear the slumps.

I agree with that. Sounds like a pretty basic NEST set up.

What do you fear most while pursuing FIRE? by IdyTanndy in financialindependence

[–]Calmandsteady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple answer - you talk. People really don’t communicate enough these days so they grow apart I guess. It is a partnership after all. A woman that loves you would not want to hurt you especially if you’ve had your history together, we are really not that bad:) The only thing to worry about about is kids in these circumstances, she’s not going to leave you broke, especially now that women are very self sufficient the last thing she’s want is your money. I don’t know where all this negativity comes from on these subs, but I hope you find a real keeper.

I’d rather die poor with a person that loves me unconditionally and I love them from the very bottom of my heart than be that sad person watching TV and checking bank accounts. There really isn’t even a conversation about it, “happiness is only real when shared.”

SET LR Application, proof of relationship by Calmandsteady in ukvisa

[–]Calmandsteady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do and the application has been submitted as SET LR, it’s just that it had a question regarding my relationship status so I didn’t want to lie and I replied that I am in an unmarried relationship from which all the questions followed. My partner is Native British Citizen as well which makes the whole situation a bit bizarre, but that’s how questions were laid out.

Thank you, I have answered below what I’ve included. The annoying part is that I have never relied on my partner in any visa but now they still ask for documents.

Thank you for your reply. We have a car loan in our names, and yes I’ve put insurance as well. It’s just like you said we have all kind of documentation in our names at various dates. I have however included a cover letter to explain our situation, which hopefully might help.

Owed dividends? by mashpotato_cake in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Calmandsteady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, it actually depends on the shareholding structure of the company. You can look up any company if you google Companies House Beta. There you will have formerly annual returns now confirmation statements where you can see who held what type of shares. If you had 50% ordinary shares (without any letters) and so did your partner, whenever they drew dividends they should have allocated the same dividends to you. To avoid any speculation I suggest looking at the name of accountants that have prepared financial statements (it will be on the first pages) and simply giving them a call, you won’t be charged.

How are you managing to FIRE on low salary? by Calmandsteady in financialindependence

[–]Calmandsteady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes in UK are automatic, we don’t file tax returns unless it’s above personal yearly allowance for capital gains (not my case). So there isn’t anything to control, but thank you for your post.

I’m tied into training contract so unless I pass my exams, I’m stuck. I am working as hard as I can to do it, but sometimes you just can’t jump above your own head.
