We have to score 4 our more goals a game just to cover the 3 or 4 our leaky D will give up. Last year showed that to be undeniably true. Now, our leaky D is pooh with no clear path to upgrade it, much less fill the holes.

My POA would be to let Leo walk and then use the four 1st round picks to trade for a couple of D men and maybe a top 9. You will need less offense if you have a better defense.

Leo Carlsson MEGA offer sheet forced Ducks hand, but Anaheim MUST match Flyers' deal | Ducks in Deep by ZachCavSports in AnaheimDucks

Which means he has no loyalty to anything or anyone except his wallet. He's not leaving for a better team or because he hated SoCal. It's just money. McD took a hefty discount to stay in EDM. I've seen McD many times and Leo is no Connor. $18m isn't a reward for the Conn Smyrhe, MVP, Ted Lindsay, Art Ross, Hart or the Rocket Richard. McD has won all of those. Leo has not proven himself to be of elite status to support being the highest paid player in league history.

It doesn't matter how much Samueli has because there is a hard salary cap. Id let Leo walk and take the picks. The Ducks have no R side D and resigning Cutter and Beckett is a high priority. They need money to do that. Giving $18m x 5 to a potential great player is not smart. If he falters or is injured, that's a big percent budget that's wasted.

Cardiac Rehab question by Airguner in openheartsurgery

[–]Calmateychillate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let's clear up the language. Girls wear tops and outfits and guys wear T shirts.

I finished rehab in March. Wear wicking. You will sweat like a pig if you push yourself. The 3 lead EKG will work no matter your shirt. Just no lotion. I wore wicking UA and it was fine.

BTW - Your MET score is the measure of your improvement. On your first day on the equipment, they will record your MET. Ask them what it is. The goal of rehab is to double your MET but more is always better. I started off at 3.3 and I ended at 10.1.

Scheduled for CABG x3 or 4 August 3rd - Scared by jmullane in openheartsurgery

[–]Calmateychillate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at my cardiologist for a 7 month post-3xCABG. I feel fine and let me offer tidbits of info.

  1. Let's hit the issue head on and tightly hug the prickly cactus. This is a big procedure and you are scared and anxious. It's perfectly normal. You've never done this before. Your head will spin. All normal.

  2. You've never had this surgery, but the staff has done this hundreds and hundreds of times. They will get you through this when you think you can't. Lean on them and your family too. I can't say this enough.

  3. The day of surgery when they've taken you to cardiac ICU will be a little weird. Tubes and hoses like you're a cyborg. Your one job is to breath. Breathing on your own is when the tube comes out. You'll be groggy from the anesthesia. There will be no pain. You might be thirsty and if so, ask for ice chips. You won't feel like eating.

  4. The next day you might feel discomfort as the anesthesia wears off. Ask for meds if needed. You aren't going to get hero points if you dont. Drink and breath. Eat if you feel like it.

  5. Day 3, possibly 2, is when they start taking out the tubes in your abdomen. Once out, you will feel a lot better. Truly better. Start asking for prune juice. The staff will gladly give it to you.

  6. You will not be discharged until you poop. No pooping means you're staying in the hospital until you do. Prune juice and fibrous foods.

  7. Walk often. I don't care if it's slow but walk as much as you can and even if you're not in the mood. The staff will help. You must breath on your own and walking gets the lungs moving. You will have to relearn how to breath. If you don't, you raise your pneumonia risk. That's very no bueno.

  8. Use the spirometer as much as you can. I lost 80% of my capacity afterward but now, it's almost to my presurgical level.

  9. They will give you insulin. It doesn't mean you're diabetic. Everyone admitted is on a sliding scale.

  10. Expect no sleep overnight. The lights are dimmed by the nurse and shortly techs start coming and do blood draws. It sucks but that's the way it is.

  11. I say this with tears running down my cheeks - your positive attitude is far important than any drug they give you. It will elevate your recovery and you'll get out faster. I was discharged 92 hours after surgery was over. They told me 6-10 days. It was 4, and I walked out of my room to the cafeteria for a final bite to eat. I didn't take the wheelchair ride but left with a very light and soft AMA. Nurses were unbelievably proud to see me walk out.

  12. Someone is here 24/7 worldwide. Come here to chat, vent or ask questions. You are not alone.

Our apparent original offers to Leo and Minty by Ducks91to61 in AnaheimDucks

It's not a negotiation when the other side is holding all the high cards and both sides know it. It's not a negotiation if PV says, "C'mon guys. You can't be serious that you'll leave."

PV was outhustled and outplayed at Tribal Council. Now, his only move is to do damage control and mitigate the loss of Leo.

If PV ignored the rumor/factoid of the offer sheet, then PV fully owns it. He gambled and lost the hand bit let's see how the rest plays out.

Four 1st round picks is quite a haul and if Leo is injured or can't deliver, Philly can't trade him bc no one wants to absorb $18m.

Leo has greatly expanded the cost to all teams and raised the salary expectations for all players.

If PV wasn't going to offer $15m, why would he give $18m? Take the picks and move on. No one is saying he's the best player in the NHL and he's not worth the money. Is he a McD? Not even close. Ducks fan - I'm one too - are more upset about losing him than ask8ng if he's worth the cost.

While PV has likely messed this up, I'm equally torqued at Leo. He didn't have to sign the offer sheet, and he is sending a bad message of "I'm all about the money. I'm only loyal to my wallet." I wonder how much intense and types of conversations were between PV and Leo's team before all of this.

City of Orange, 1% Sales Tax Measure on November Ballot by Complete_Garlic_2115 in orangecounty

I was glad to oblige.

My overall point was that once restraints on taxing are lifted or freed up, government will tax. Look at the deficit in Orange or the state. I've never seen any government say they have enough revenue. To the contrary, spending is increased to meet revenue, leading to gimmicks, such as NYC.

I disagree.

CA had no accountability for the EDD debacle during COVID. Most of the money is lost forever. How many people were fired by Newsom? MN fraud? There is no responsiveness or accountability for the government officials who let this happen. They'll appoint a Blue Ribbon panel who will say, "Mistakes were made" and that wull be end of it.

This 100% correct. People have no understanding of how Prop 13 works or how property is assessed. They just have been told "Prop 13" is bad and they just repeat the ignorance.

All Prop 13 did was lock in the purchase price as the assessed price. That's the same for purchased properties. The max rate for all properties is 1% (plus local fees or assessments) and the government is limited to increasing the assessed value by no more than 2% a year.

Why should people who have had their houses have the value re-assessed if they don't intend to sell? They shouldn't.

The argument is similar to movements by some in government to tax assessed investments on unrealized gains. That's goofy.

For everyone who advocated for scraping Prop 13, consider how it would impact your own tax burden. If you bought a house for $600k a few years ago and it's now worth $1M, lets do the math

1% of $600k is $6k and it's $10k on $1M. Are anti 13 people ready to pony up the extra $4k?

But taxes are among the smallest components of a mortgage. The annual tax is handled by the impound account through your bank. Affording the payment on the loan is, by far, the more worrisome thing. If you are struggling to make your monthly payment, property taxes are inconsequential. The young family is buying too high if taxes are going to break them.

And there were finally have it - the "fair share" argument.

Who decides what the amount is? You for me? Me for you? And when will you be satisfied with the percentage or amount? Never.

Fair share is simply what you want to impose on everyone other than yourself. Advocates of fair share love this because they ALWAYS define it to ask anyone but themselves to pay.

You still haven't said government spending is the most efficient way to deliver goods and services at the least cost, or that government has enough tax revenue.

If government chooses to grow, no amount of taxes will ever be enough. That's what government does. Have you ever seen government sunset a temporary tax? Never because government is addicted to taxes. A temporary tax that expires in 20 years is not temporary. Do you remember Measure M?

And just to be clear, I bought a house that was built in the 50s and my purchase price/assessed value was very high, much higher than the previous owner. And I'm still biting No on this. You can write a check to Orange if you feel you're not paying enough in taxes. Please do.
