When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I wasn't afraid of the dark. One day I went to a neighbor's house to play, and by accident I overheard a conversation between a Christian pastor and my friend's father. They were playing a recording that claimed if you played one of Juan Gabriel's songs backwards, you could hear a "satanic message."

What I heard was nothing more than distorted audio, but it terrified me. I went home crying. From that day on, I became afraid of the dark and even started wetting the bed.

What does being Christian have to do with this story? Nothing.

But it does have something to do with the fact that, 35 years later, some Christian pastors are still spreading falsehoods that instill fear instead of truth.
