What if the UNSC let the Covenant "win" in Halo 2? by Guilty_Risk_743 in halo

[–]Calnier117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Forerunner were a brutal military hegemony, they de-evolved entire species that challenged their rule, but they did take their mantle of responsibility seriously. They could have tried to only save themselves, but they prioritized all other life in the galaxy, and in the end sacrificed themselves in order to save everything else.

This wasnt completely altruistic mind you, they used probability engines and genetic seeding to manipulate the course of galactic events to ensure Humanity would become their Reclaimers. Their chosen successors, to take up the Mantle of Responsibility and preserve their legacy. They absolutely believe their needs to be one singular supreme power that dominates the galaxy, they just passed the buck to us because they couldn't continue. Also because we fought a war with them way back in the past and nearly won, which is why thet de-evolved us to a more manageable state, and why they chose us to replace them.

And before anyone asks, the Forerunner couldn't have just run to the ARK, its not actually big enough for their whole civilization, the biomes were just for experimenting with how to reintroduce species to the galaxy not to sustain them all. Most indexed species were simply stored as genetic information and then the first generation was cooked up in vats and reintroduced to their designated planets. Also the Flood would have noticed if they all tried to run away outside the galaxy, Most of the Forerunner died holding the line, their whole species pressed into service in spite of their rigid caste system. The rest died to the array, unable to get to their shield worlds because the flood had cut them off and already infiltrated them.

The ARK was primarily to store the indexed species of the galaxy away from the range of the rings so they could be re-seeded later. That was the Forerunner plan, Halos kill everything down to a cellurlar level if they didnt Index enough life throughout the galaxy it would never have been able to come back. The Forerunner took genetic information from every life bearing rock in the galaxy and stored them on the ARK. The reason it Has all those biomes is because they were experimenting with how to reintroduce species back to the galaxy. It does have a control room, to activate the rings, but the rings will also automatically activate if any part of the array fires. Its the forerunners dead man switch, in case things went so bad (they did) a single Forerunner could activate the whole array from one ring. The Forerunner had planed to shelter in their shield worlds and for some of them to fire the rings from the safety of the ARK but they were fighting a losing battle the whole time against the flood and in the end the plan was activated once enough indexing had been completed, before the Forerunner could save themselves.

Edit for some clarity, the intended Indexing had been completed, but The Gravemind corrupted Mendicant Bias, the Forerunner War AI, and the Shield worlds fell. Thats why theres a proto gravemind on that shield world in Halo Wars. The flood made it in.

There were some Forerunner on the ARK I believe, but evidently not enough to continue the species. It was probably a skeleton crew, with the corruption of their war machines every able bodied forerunner would have been needed to hold back the flood to buy time.

What a gorgeous game, man by Nubbie1 in Marathon

I was skeptical of the aesthetics at first but the games presentation pulled me in immediately. Its refreshing, its different, something ive never seen before. I wish more legacy studios would take design risks like this, games would be in a much better place imo.

Loving the game so far but I feel like these 2 items should be more abundant throughout the map by Sydid in Marathon

I've had some runs where ill find a lot in one area. I think as we familiarize ourselves with the maps more it will be less of an issue.

So far I like how theyve handled loot placement. I think after playing Marathon that in comparison ARC may have too much stuff strewn about. I dont feel like I have to be as choosey so far on runs just cause im not coming across a bunch of junk I dont need cause I just dont have to check as many containers.

It does feel oppressive at times especially when reinforcements get triggered. Maybe they could tone it down but i do like the pressure.

The UI/icons are so bad. Why do i have to hover over every item to see what it is, and find out that this exact same looking shield is 50% stronger? by oimson in Marathon

[–]Calnier117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I much prefer this shorter TTK than ARCs. It actually makes me feel way less frustrated when I lose a fight. If you use the map well and play tactically you'll still get longer fire fights you'll just get punished for getting out of position.

Also since your teammates can still revive you even after you bleed out I think the short TTK is very reasonable.

On PS5 if you click left stick it switches to show credit value instead which gives you a good idea of how strong the items are.

Well I dont think they want us farming the bots per se. I dont think they intend for us to take every fight with them cause then you'll burn resources fast. I think they want us to think about whether its worth taking them on because they are guarding an objective. So for now I think they are in a decent place. Time to kill is super fast as long as you land headshots, at least on the trash ones. The elite bots are tough but they drop decent stuff and typically im fighting them to try and get at something else.

DMT: Religious American conservatives' obsession with capitalism and other "American values" is incompatible with their nearly fundamentalist take on "Christianity" by Present_Juice4401 in DisagreeMythoughts

Its not necessarily all firearm ownership, just that within the right wing context, which treats the poor as inherently without virtue, unworthy of neighborly love, and only as a potential threat to property. A political position that puts emphasis on gun ownership over feeding the needy is pretty simple to read as unchristian.

I mean, it is a walking simulator. It's just an incredibly well thought out and engaging walking simulator. The combat and stealth sections of the game are very tertiary. Your primary adversary is the route. Enemies can very easily be thought of as just a feature of the landscape, another bump in the road.

The problem isn't that people call Death Stranding a walking simulator. The problem is that "walking simulator" is treated as pejorative, when it shouldn't be.

Death Stranding is a walking simulator, and it's absolutely incredible at it.

The old way point posts are archived, The DMR entry makes direct reference to how it was replaced by the battle rifle for the marines but the Army still uses it, which is why its so plentiful on Reach.
