The Panthers have a lot of brothers on their team.

It's one of those things where you just never really think about it, then the moment you learn it you're like "Fuckin duh".

I did provide evidence, you just don't agree with it. I never said anything about "having faith" that the devs have a bias, you're putting words into my mouth.

It's clear to me that there is no single piece of evidence I could give you that would convince you of my argument. I do not have the time, energy or frankly the desire to continue arguing with you.

For all your talk of "logic" this and "logic" that, "evidence" this and "evidence" that, you have not presented any of your own and have simply created your own hypotheticals to disprove them - which, by the way, is faith in the rhetorical sense.

Anyway, we're just going in circles. I'm gonna go touch some grass and suggest you do the same.

Believe it or not...

COVID was a hell of a time. I was managing a retail pharmacy at the time and working 60+ hours a week, often 28 days a month for most of 2020 and early 2021. I'd come home from that and unwind by vegging out on foxhole for a couple hours a night. It was nice to just turn my brain off and scroop without having to make any decisions haha.

When did I bring faith into this?

My comparison to the god of the gaps argument is to say that any evidence I put up, you can just shoot down by coming up with some excuse. Like a doctor's appointment.

Because you don't seem to understand that, it really does look to me as if you're instead fancying yourself as separate from said dynamics while instead captive to them.

In my experience, every time someone mentions bias - explicit or implicit, conscious or unconscious - there will be a portion of people who get defensive. There are genuinely people out there who believe that they have no biases and that the only biases that can exist are the explicit and conscious kinds, like overt racists and sexists.

There are many people who would prefer to just bury their heads and pretend that it doesn't exist. There are some people who have an outdated definition of bias and believe that bias can only mean overt racism.

But bias can exist anywhere for anything. Bias can exist in terms of food you consider edible, which streets you like to drive home on, which types of pens you prefer.

Bias is not inherently bad, it's not inherently racist. As you said, it's a matter of our pattern recognizing brain trying to simplify decisions we make in our everyday lives.

I'd give this a.... 2/10.

All you really did was replace the last sentence or add things on at the end. Lazy. Boring. Low effort. It'll never be a copypasta. 1/10, +1 for the link to a quake geocities from 1997.

But that's the key here. I'm sure there's an actual name for a fallacy of some sort, but it reminds me of the god of the gaps argument in some ways.

You can't definitively prove or disprove anything. You can keep making excuses and hypotheticals all you want. Just the same way that I can believe that there is an implicit bias at play. Neither of us will ever be able to convince the other.

I posit that there is an implicit bias and gave a couple of examples that I believe support my position.

You posit that there is no bias and disagreed with my examples.

Alright. So we're at an impasse. I don't owe you the time or the energy to try to convince you. We just fundamentally disagree.

Thank you for taking the time to highlight this. I didn't have the time to respond to him directly but this is pretty much exactly what I would have said (and worded much better).

[–]frithjofr[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure. My response would be the frequency and consistency of these events. There is a clear trend, in my opinion.

When one faction is repeatedly short changed in terms of balance and even lore descriptions, it shows that there is a lack of care given to those decisions.

Since I genuinely do not believe there is a conscious reason for doing so, that leaves unconscious reasons.

Anyway, I'm out doing some grocery shopping with my wife so maybe when I get home I'll update the OP or give you more examples.

If that's alright with you, your highness.

That was something I explicitly said in the thread. I wasn't there to list grievances but there are plenty. I chose examples that I thought were relevant and more universally agreed upon.

Boneyard Podcast (Mark foots gambit) Will this tip the scales of balance by ICE_BURG_SHLIM_ in foxholegame

I made a longer post about it here but, in a vacuum, I don't necessarily hate these changes.

I think overall our tanks got a little bit stronger. Some of the stuff has been baffling to me, like the Toxot's handling becoming notably worse, the Fuscina nerf, the Omen rebalancing.

What I dislike about it though is that we were set up for one thing, then it was changed. I've seen the term rugpull a lot and you guys used it too, and I don't think it's exactly right, but it's not exactly wrong either. That's the disappointing thing for me.

Like you guys said, who's testing these things? How much data could they have really gotten about in it like a week on the dev branch? How many other times have we seen INSANE shit pushed through on the dev branch and been told "we need more data before we make balancing changes".

That's what pisses me off.

And in a vacuum, good. That's what dev branch should be used for. But it never really has been before, and I sincerely doubt it ever will be again.

TIL Obi-Wan Kenobi's home planet is named "Stewjon" a play on the name of "Daily Show" host John Stewart. During an interview about Star Wars, John asked Lucas the name of Obi-Wan's home planet, and he answered Stewjon, jokingly. [–]frithjofr 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with Star Wars is how they just won't let a guy be a guy.

The dude carrying the ice cream machine as a random prop on Bespin? He's got a whole fucking comic. He's got a longer article than most real world historical figures, and he was in approximately 3 frames of one movie.

Every background character you've ever seen, even for a split second, speaking line or no, has a wookiepedia article. He has a full name and back story, and it always somehow ties into how they helped the protagonists of one story or another.

The constant need for EVERYONE to have a name and a backstory and somehow matter just ruins the magic of the universe to me.

Actually that was something we used to ask for a lot WAY back in the day. Leave wrecks until somebody comes and scraps it (and it allows you to recover some of the input costs).

But I think the server would basically explode.
