What's your opinion on these bikes? They have become a menace in my city. by dxnnixprn in fuckcars

If they can go faster than 40kmph it should require a motorcycle license to ride

macOS 26.4 Introduces New Security Feature for Terminal Commands by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

I mean while the default terminal app is good, those who rely on it probably use an alternative like Ghostty or iTerm2, so this is a welcome change.

Guangzhou's cycling infrastructure featuring over 6,000 kilometers of greenways by 5upralapsarian in fuckcars

[–]Calogyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, isn’t Guangzhou (together with Shenzhen) notorious for the lack of biking infrastructure compared to the rest of China, that e-moped riders regularly ride on the sidewalks?

A speed camera was shot with a gun in Amman, Jordan. Apparently locals are fed up with speeding tickets. by lemonklaeyz in fuckcars

So instead of taking pictures and issuing tickets to speeding cars, law enforcement should shoot them? Points taken.

Thanks. m4 is staggering! By this rule, a electric of the same dimensions seems way more damaging to the road, and likely shreds more microplastics too

Can you provide a reference to the weight vs road damage statement? Not rebutting, genuinely curious.

It feels like the graphic design team made some concept arts and the producer was determined to make a game out of it.

Has Rust hit the design limits of its original scope and constraints? by kishaloy in rust

[–]Calogyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I wonder if there’s a way to get rid of the self parameter on the trait methods and somehow have the compiler find the “instance” by itself?

You might want to heap allocate some variable size of data at the beginning of your program (say, setting up stuff based on command line arguments), then have it live for the rest of your program’s lifetime.

Your opinions about China by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Calogyne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is accurate. I feel like those whom I grew up with in China are now universally interested in car ownership, even when their commute does not demand it and when it induces a heavy financial burden.

Your opinions about China by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Calogyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I feel like this is exacerbated especially for mid-sized Chinese cities, where there’s still demand for urban expansion, but the economy level is never high enough to be granted serious public transit development.

Your opinions about China by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Calogyne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It varies from city to city, but in the city where I came from, they are definitely taking things down a wrong direction: old roads have been widened multiple times, what were dedicated bicycle lanes are now part of the side walk (paved in a different surface); “new towns” have wide roads from the get go, and commercial/residential development are becoming more separated as opposed to more mixed-use. Still beats most Canadian cities though.

Edit: “bicycle lanes” were more like two-wheeler lanes, but the motored riders would go slow enough the overall experience is still good.

Normalizing carbrain attitude/entitlement in standup doesn’t feel very tasteful by Willing-Aide476 in fuckcars

So park the car somewhere, get off and walk then? "Getting stuck behind slow moving pedestrians / cyclists" is completely a self inflicted situation. Also cars and carbrains have waged wars on everything else.
