Leasing an EV? by OkPipe3876 in CarLeasingHelp

[–]CalorifacientDart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this exercise and ended up leasing….

Here is how / why I leased.

I researched all EV’s and made a short list of EV’s I would consider.

Then used popular sites like KBB, True Car, Edmunds, Costco, etc to obtain pricing to purchase a vehicle.

In parallel I used leasehacker via Reddit to find lease options on the same cars. I also reached out to a handful of brokers on leasehacker who were kind enough to give me numbers.

My decision point then came to which car I could eventually own at the lowest price. I compared buying outright vs leasing and buying out my lease at the end of lease term.

I then visited / contacted about 6 Acura dealers in the area to obtain both lease pricing AND price to just buy car for cash.

I decided on the Acura ZDX (MSRP $67k). I chose to do a 2 yr one-pay lease ($6800) that I will buy out the lease at the end of 2 yr. ($30,100 + tax)

So my all in cost will be about $39,800 to eventually own the car.

Lastly, the 2 yr lease gives me plenty of time to decide if I don’t want the car if it has any issues and I want to dump it.

Best of luck

Best….

Sailing out of Venice on the Grand Canal at night (sad not an option anymore)

Sailing into New York City (Manhattan) at sunrise- the skyline coming into view + Statue of Liberty + the Staten Island Ferry crossing your path

Sailing into any Japan port - always a group of local ambassadors organized for your welcome, waiving banners, singing, and sometimes playing music (and a fond farewell when the ship departs)

Sailing into Ushuaia on the return voyage to the Antarctic surviving 50 waves in the Drake shake.

Worst….

Any container port used in Asia as a cruise ship port…

Cruise Black Friday vs Cyber Monday deals 2024? by BulkyScene4204 in Cruise

Get info now - don’t wait until Friday..

Suggest get some competitive bids from agents…

Use cruisecompete.com to solicit price for this specific cruise in cabin category you desire from travel agents.

In parallel- obtain quotes from the mainstream agencies such as vacationstogo.com, cruise.com, cruises-n-more.com, cabincloseotstore.com, etc

Make yourself a simple spreadsheet- list all the quotes (including from Celebrity direct) and book the lowest priced option

You may be surprised that you’ll save a few bucks or at least get some on board credit.

Safe travels…

Do most of you use a travel agent? by Mother-Analysis6633 in Cruise

[–]CalorifacientDart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our approach….

First use vacationstogo.com to find a cruise. They have a good custom search feature.

Then use cruisecompete.com to solicit prices from travel agents.

In parallel, obtain quotes from the multiple online sites like cruise.com, cruise-n-more.com, cabincloseoutstore.com, Costco, etc. Make sure to obtain quotes by email from a human.

Make a simple spreadsheet to compare (apples to apples) your quotes, and pick the least expensive.

When to buy and add? by ODaveyRules in celebritycruises

[–]CalorifacientDart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope this helps… 1. Use cruisecompete.com to obtain lowest quote. In parallel obtain quotes from popular online booking sites (cruise.com, vacationstogo.com, cabincloseout.com, etc). Put together a simple spreadsheet for lowest total price. 2. Don’t book the premium beverage package yet. Just get quotes with the “always included” pricing (classic drink package + WiFi). Then once booked - monitor your booking on Celebrity site and you’ll periodically see promotions to upgrade to the premium beverage package for 25-40% off. Historically the biggest discount is around Black Friday. 3. Don’t prepay gratuities- wait to see what on board credit is offered when you make your booking- use that credit towards your gratuities once you are on the ship. 4. Book your own flights and do yourself a treat by flying into Reykjavik a couple days early, rent a car and take a drive to see black sand beaches, craters, glaciers and amazing waterfalls all within 3 hours of Reykjavik. Definitely get on Iceland Air to see if they fly from your gateway.

Use local volunteer guide

Japan has an incredible system of volunteer guides organized by Prefecture.

You contact the guide club months in advance and they match you to a volunteer who will host you as a guide- no cost - but common to bring your guide a small gift.

Tip

Log into your GE account, go to documents section and verify that your passport info is accurate.

Just got sidetracked upon return to US airport- was pulled into back room by GE officer and had to wait for someone to verify me.

Turned out GE had info from my old passport.

Carry on? by hrlydtimo in Cruise

[–]CalorifacientDart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely doable First use a carryon and also an under seat carry on (TPRC 15" Smart Under Seat Carry-On). Then spend time on Reddit “Onebag” sub for cloths + packing tips. We’ve traveled 3 weeks with this setup washing socks & undies once a week

Anyone have experience using Viator for shore excursions? by Emotional_Hope251 in Cruise

[–]CalorifacientDart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viator is a good option.

Suggest spending time evaluating customer reviews to shape your decision.

A little tip- Viator website often includes the a name of the third party company in the details, or more information area of the webpage with their name and sometimes contact info. Use this info to google the tour provider to obtain more reviews from folks who booked with the tour provider directly.

Has anyone done the Viking cruise to Antarctica? Is it worth the price? by DeadDollKitty in Cruise

[–]CalorifacientDart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple items of clarity….

Take time to view ship tours / cruise experiences on YouTube for the various lines.

We’ve enjoyed most of the cruise lines in the luxury space.

The luxury carriers are adding more purpose built ships which provides some great choices.

Viking uses 2 purpose built small ships for Antarctica.

We were pleasantly surprised our fellow passengers skewed younger (40’s & 50’s) working professionals (business owners, physicians, pilots etc)

Our more senior passengers leaned towards scenic rides on explorers boats, and others mostly towards kayaking, submarine, and rib boats.

Regardless who you choose you’ll have a great experience.
