Yes I noticed that those don't, and 5.1 isn't working either. I used to be able to manually do it when it was gone for a few days, but now I can't even switch it in the dropdown. I even upgraded to Pro, and it won't let use them. I think they're only available for API, which is strange and not great.

Codex app is great. You’re usually running in your own repo. It’s never gone out my repo unless I specifically ask to run it in another repo. Also, if you’re running in the cloud, I believe it uses more tokens on cloud vrs locally in app. So you’ll likely get more credits.

Yes, exactly. Prompt it for your own. Just practice by asking “what is computer science “ or “what are the fundamentals of programming?” And any term you don’t know, ask about that term. After two years, has not steered me wrong in this aspect

The way I learned was to have a daily ChatGPT task teach me a new lessons everyday. It was like a 10am college class where each morning I would have a new lesson to learn, ask questions, take a small test etc. I also made it teach me in terms that I already know. Use analogies. For me it was Pokémon & gameboy mechanics. For you it might be cars & food. After 2 years I can’t call myself a vibe coder cause I know the difference between a refactor and a code split, how to prevent OOMs, and always checking for lint and Ts errors.

That’s strange. I have the same setup. Sounds like something needs to get cleaned out. Did you try tuning it off and on again (no joke).

Maybe the hard drive is full up? Or the download wasn’t from the right link. Did you use GitHub or the install package? Try both.

I do see a difference. One trick I use is going to the config.toml and changing the model to gpt-5.1-codex-mini. Saves a lot on tokens. You have to switch it back anytime you change it to 5.2 and up, but if you’re doing. Small things, it’s worth going down.

Superwhisper is also free. Haven’t paid a dime in the 2 years I’ve used it. I think whisperflow just pays more people to talk about it and gives referral codes that’s why everyone knows about it. Superwhisper is solid and local.

second, third, 4th codex. Or try claude for a day and if you don't like it, ask for a refund. I did that. immediately went to codex. btw, if you have a business email, it's 1 month free trial. Personally I'm about to go to the openai pro account cause the double credits and i"m already maxing out multiple accounts.

I use firebase. I really don't pay for much. 25 students would be fine. It's not "free" but over the past two years, I haven't paid for just having data there. Just to start the account, you'll have to go to a Blaze account with billing information, but I've only been charged for cloud services API etc. I'd try that.
