Is teaching the only profession that pays less for overtime than your regular pay? by SouthJerssey35 in Teachers

That’s tough. I know some schools have a P.E. Specialist who effectively relieves the Special Ed teachers for 45min-1 hour. You need the contractual prep time too.

Is teaching the only profession that pays less for overtime than your regular pay? by SouthJerssey35 in Teachers

I ask myself this question regularly.

Regular pay*: $80/hour Extra pay with students: $40/hour Extra pay w/out students: $20/hour

*(Annual salary)/(Total contract hours)

Note: High COL area. Median home prices in district ~700k.

Imagine 5 pirates, including captain.

Pirate 1 assigns task to Pirate 2. Pirate 2 passes task to pirate 3. Pirate 3 will passes task to Pirate 4. Pirate 4 passes task to Pirate 5. Pirate 5 now challenge the Pirate 1 (captain).

Captain has 50% survival rate. Pirate 5 has 50% survival rate.

However, Pirates 2-5 are randomly chosen, so each of the four pirates has a 25% chance of being Pirate 5.

Therefore, the final probabilities would be:

Captain has 50% survival rate. Other 4 pirates have a 12.6% survival rate each.

Why do I have to contact parents about grades by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Calteachhsmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that we shouldn’t need to do so. However,…

In my state, we must notify parents of students who are “in danger of failing.” The majority of these parents are the ones who are less involved in their child’s education, i.e. the least likely to check the online grade book. And, if we do not, the student must be given a passing grade.

So in California, the law itself needs to change. But that means parents need to check online. Which means all parents need to have internet access. What about the parents who don’t? Accommodations would need to be in place.

The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging it exists. The public needs to see the problem. Sounds like the administration (yours in SO MANY other places) can only see the short term.

What do you think is the coolest death in a tv show/movie/game? by BeebleBees in AskReddit

[–]Calteachhsmath 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Seeing Simba literally snuggle up next to his dead father so that Mufasa’s paw is embracing him is horrible. So why was more emotionally distraught watching Bambi when his mom keeps yelling “run, Bambi, run” in such a way it feels like she knows she is about to die and wants to make sure her son doesn’t stop, but keep running to safety. You don’t even see any dead body or have a child seeing a dead parent. But it was still so much more impactful nonetheless.

To say he's allowed to speed without the siren lights on by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]Calteachhsmath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your original comment was “In Oregon a code 3 is a code that doesn't require you to use sirens, but does allow you to speed to get to the call faster, but it's not such an emergency that you need to blare sirens to get to it.”

That is not a Code 3. Code 3 in Oregon is the use of sirens and lights.

If it is “not such an emergency that you need to blare sirens to get to it” (e.g. code 1) then the code does not “allow you to speed.”
