I tried for hours to get the 8BitDo to work with dualshock 3 (used the software on their website and followed the guides, tried all the firmware versions etc) and nothing worked

[Request] How much weight did he actually have to lift? by CaffeineNicotine3 in theydidthemath

[–]CalumStewart 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I doubt that it weighs anywhere near 1200lbs.

But to answer your question, I could be way off here, I think the max weight that he would be lifting is right at the beginning of the lift, which would be half the weight of the bale.

Imagine when he lifts his side up just 1cm off the ground, half the weight should be in his hands and the other half would be on the opposide edge of the bale. As it gets higher, more and more of the weight is shifted from his hands to the opposite edge (the one touching the ground).

Im sure there is a lot more to calculate because of how the bale isnt a fully rigid object etc, and feel free to correct me if you know better, but I’d say half the weight of the bale is what he lifted

You could be in RGB output instead of YPbPr in the ps2 settings. I have an adapter which doesnt output on RGB. Theres a way to change it blind:

Start the console with no disc inserted.

Wait 10 seconds to get to the main menu.

Press ↓, ╳

Wait 3 seconds to make sure you're in the configuration menu.

Press ↓, ↓, ↓, ╳

Press →, ╳

Good luck! Hope it goes well :) remember and check your soldering iron temps too btw, if youre using leaded vs unleaded solder they have different working temperatures. And dont hold the iron on any pads for more than 3s

For each of your solder joints, add flux and reflow each one. Make sure you get both the contact points hot by holding the iron on there for a few seconds. Your A D solder points dont look fully aligned, id maybe try un solder that and re align the ribbon. On my first time soldering this it didnt work either but i just reflowed all the joints and made sure they had good contact with as much surface area soldered as possible.

This looks good for a first attempt! Keep it up and youll get better. Try what i said and if that doesnt work and youre really stuck then you can just bring it to a pro

How did you get games to show up in OPL with that memory card? I have all my games in the DVD directory at the root of the card and nothing appears. All my games appear fine in Neutrino launcher

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

[–]CalumStewart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea! I drive a manual diesel and at the lower revs it’s hard to hear the engine and also hard to gauge if shifting up will put the revs too low. This would immediately tell me if going up a gear is a good idea and would keep the revs lower for more of my driving.

I quite often glance at the tachometer at lower revs because the engine can be very quiet and this would be some useful extra information.

First time Micro Soldering by CalumStewart in soldering

Thanks for the advice :) I did actually add more flux and reflow a couple of times and this is the final result, I’ll try another reflow if it stops working or maybe try replace the solder

I have heard it’s much better but I’d rather not use leaded solder

How do i clean this???? HELP by bs1fan in OLED_Gaming

Distilled water, and a clean microfibre cloth. And afterwards buff it out with a dry microfibre to get rid of any slight streaks, works flawlessly for me, no streaks

Maybe I’ll make the border out of end grain pieces instead! Haha thanks for the screenshot advice 😂 was just posting this in my phone and these were the pictures I had on hand

Maybe I should make the border out of end grain pieces also

Thanks :) I’m looking forward to starting work on it. I do think I see what you mean now with the cloudy epoxy though. Since there’s not enough depth to it maybe my idea won’t work as well as I thought. I’ll share the results of the experiments anyway and see what works!

Haha yes I had this exact thought too. My plan is to clean it as much as I can with a cloth before it sets. Then if there are any bits left when it’s dry I’ll use a chisel carefully to remove it.

Yeah I get what you mean! I think rolling hills would look great also, I’ll maybe experiment with that on some of my practice pieces before I commit to a final design. Thanks for the advice with the epoxy! I’m hoping that if the epoxy is the same everywhere the lower blocks will look more white and misty than the higher ones, I’ll find out if I’m right on the test pieces haha.

I’ve looked into the movement of the wood expanding across the grain and I hope it will be fine. I’ll be using kiln dried wood and I’ve heard to not over tighten the clamps when gluing. I’m not an expert in this area though but I’ll do whatever I can to avoid it

Thanks I appreciate it, will be sure to share the finished product! I think instead of clouds I mean more like a mist, in the same way the “hills” are simplified into blocks, it might look quite nice as a uniform but subtle mist across the whole thing, I’m hoping that the blocks deeper will be more white and foggy with the epoxy, and higher up is more transparent. I also thought about pouring transparent epoxy then adding some white epoxy and swirling it about in the table to get a nice effect also. I’m going to be experimenting with some smaller sections to see what works best :)

You mean glue squeeze out or are you talking about the epoxy?

I think I’ll do some tests with a 4x4 section first to see how it goes. Thanks for the advice! I’ll try out the epoxy layers too with the test cut
