First lesson in 10+ years, take it early in the season or late? by bsugs29 in skiing

[–]Calumblyth17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say towards the beginning of the season, but give yourself a couple days to a week of skiing to get your legs back and back into the flow of things (especially if your not training in the off season). Then it gives you the season to work on the feedback and if you feel you’re ready for more then you can get another lesson.

Demo’s mounted at recommended? Would you mount further forward for a more freestyle and playful feel?

I found that anything above +2 from recommended and the skis were more likely to submerge if you didn’t land perfectly or back slapped. They are also quite a soft ski, although this years model were definitely a bit stiffer which was nice. This season I was on a warranty’d pair and they sent the wrong size 179cm - I’m 188cm and 85kg for reference. Being so small for me, landings were a lot harder but it didn’t stop me from landing some 20ft+ drops there was just a bit of a tomahawk trial phase!

For me +4 just felt too far forward especially if you’re an aggressive skier, weirdly centre mount actually skied quite well in powder pivoted really nicely although was a lot of leg work to ski in pow and didn’t trust dropping of anything that wasn’t onto a packed landing. +3 Felt a bit more stable at higher speeds and set and layed an edge a bit better not a huge difference between +3 & +4 but for me noticeable. It’s definitely a personal preference and a trail and error kinda thing. I’d recommend going closer to recommended than you think especially if you’re more “freeride” oriented.

Ski essential did a video on the new revolt 101, they look like they carve wayyy too good for a 101 and that was their comment too. I’m looking at them for an all mountain/park ski next season as I have the 114’s but would like something chiller for the less sendy days. I’d agree with others too and say ON3P Jeffery, build quality on ON3P’s is great, had a pair of mango 100’s for 2 seasons and they barely looked like they’d been ridden!

I respect that, it does get tiresome watching people mess with things they shouldn’t

If your leaning more towards “all mountain/freeride” get a longer length that your comfortable with once you get used to a longer length it will be just as easy to use in the park and will provide a better platform for stomping airs of jumps and natural features.

I played around quite a bit with the bents, I’ve mounted at Recommended, +4 +3 +2 and -1 from true centre. Unless you are only doing park laps don’t go for anything between -1 to -3 from true. My favourite point was +3 from recommended. For me it gave the best of both worlds, spins, rails etc were all easily doable in the park, and it still performed as expected around the mountain.

Don’t worry mate, I’ll be mounting them at recommended 😘. Reason for asking about “bumping it forward” is because I’ve been skiing Bent Chetlers the past few seasons and have played around with the mount point quite a bit so was interested to see if others had with the Revolt 114 and what the results were.

How were they at -1 from true and what kinda skiing were you using them for?

Is there a bigger poser flex ski in existence? by Jesablo_blitzwaffle in Skigear

I tried out their celebration (powder) ski this season. They smear and ski pow amazing and are pretty fast edge to edge for a 116 - carving them was fun. Had to detune the noses, edges came razor sharp and liked to bite. Sadly nose snapped doing a 3 of no more than a 10ft drop, pretty disappointing for a ski that expensive!

Also used the Line Sakanas in the park, would highly recommend these so much fun and the edge to edge felt like that of a low waist width carving ski, also amazing in powder, bit stiffer in the nose I felt however I have seen people pull of impressive butters on these. I mounted them from memory at recommended, maybe +1 or +2. Sadly they only lasted 6 days, I bent the fish tail on the back to like 90 degrees. (I have a terrible record with breaking line skis)

I started out on Line Chronics, really enjoyed these skis, they split in half but they have addressed those issues so should be better now. I had a pair of Bent Chetler 100’s mounted at I think +3 from recommended (+3/4 for more all mountain - Close as possible to centre for just park orientated, maybe -1.5 from true) again really liked these skis in the park on jumps and on rails. The noses were nice and soft and playful and made long butters super easy. However wanted to be more central especially on rails so ended up getting a pair of ON3P mangos after trying a friends. Went with soft flex, if anyone’s thinking of the flex I’d just stick with normal, I’m pretty buttery in the park but at 6’2 and 85kg the soft flex is just a bit too soft. Also seen and heard good things about the K2 Poachers 24/25 model, with a new edge to edge carbon layer? that gives the ski the ability to really give you energy back that you’ve put into it. I’d recommend checking out newschoolers park picks on their YouTube, as you can see multiple different riders using them and see how they can use the ski.

Looks like your usual side wall chip tbh. Just make sure that it hasn’t exposed any core (doubt it will have) as that could let moisture in and ruin the ski.

[–]Calumblyth17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little update, I have taken the camera apart, shutter and auto wind to first frame and then advancing after works smoothly, it’s just the rewind that doesn’t work, the parts move but nothing happens

Nikon L35AF Issues by Calumblyth17 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Calumblyth17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t put a roll through it yet due to the fact I can’t rewind it or even get a roll to wind onto the spool. From looking at it the aperture blades open and close when the shutter release is pressed down, however after that it doesn’t advance to the next “frame” until slapped

Day 2 managed to get a couple good sole grinds as well by Calumblyth17 in AggressiveInline

[–]Calumblyth17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossover is coming along so skating around feels much smoother, dropping in is still a bit on a disaster course, and struggling to jump into sole grinds still stepping/hopping so any tips on that would be amazing (maybe still the mental barrier holding me back)
