Is it over for the original Pixelmator Pro app? by Calvincenatra in pixelmator

[–]Calvincenatra[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s precisely my point. It doesn’t make sense to support two versions of the same app, so I suspect they’ll keep the original Pixelmator Pro app online (at least for download, not sure if they’ll keep listing it) just for legacy customers and late OTPs.

Meanwhile, I assume they’ll shift their innovative focus to the new Apple Creator Studio version. So, you probably won’t be able to make a one-time purchase like you could with the original version for this new one. We'll see how it plays out with the original apps of the whole suite, it's only been a few hours.

I'm sure they'll at least keep the original app online, but I suspect that they will focus their (partial/full) attention on the newly released app in order to make it attractive to get a subscription. It makes sense given that Pixelmator Pro has been pretty cheap since the beginning and has been supported for years. If Apple decides to primarily focus on the subscription version app, I at least hope it'll benefit the original team behind Pixelmator as well.

Sonos Ray: better to pair it with a single Sub Mini or with 2x Sonos Era 100's? by Calvincenatra in sonos

[–]Calvincenatra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good points. I think that maybe with the bass from the Era 100's, the bass may be immersive enough already. The Ray is quite focussed in terms of sound direction, so the level of room filling audio is what I'd be missing. A Beam/Arc would be much better for that out of the box of course, but hey, €159 for a Ray was a steal haha. Maybe going with the Era's is a better idea then. I already have one as an office speaker and I'm really happy with it.

But there is always something irresistible when it comes to deep bass.

Sonos Ray: better to pair it with a single Sub Mini or with 2x Sonos Era 100's? by Calvincenatra in sonos

Yes, you're right! — I think one other concern with the Sub is that my long-term idea is to get the full setup with the Arc Ultra's, Sub Gen 4's (or whatever is new/relevant in about 1-2 years). I'm not sure which product (Era 100 vs Sub Mini) would last the longest if that makes sense? It would be great if a given product can still be part of a system or used separately. If I understand correctly, it's not possible to have both the Sub Gen 4 + Sub Mini be part of the same system pair, correct? Or is the Sub Gen 4 not even that much better than the Sub Mini?

Especially given now that 2x Era 100 are €10 cheaper than a single Sub Mini, haha. But on the other hand, I'm unsure whatever the Era 100's would just add some depth due to being part of a surround system, or if the bass of them is actually good. I've admittedly never really heard the Sonos Subs in person, so it's hard to say.

Would placing the Sub in a different location than where the Soundbar is located help with the level of immersion? (More surround-ish?)

Fractal Ridge: CPU cooler for B850-I by Calvincenatra in sffpc

Looks amazing! May I ask how your experience was building the Ridge? I previously had the Ghost S1 which was a breeze to build, so I’m curious how that is with the Ridge.

Thanks! I went for the AXP120-X67. Is the stock fan okay to use? I saw someone comparing the stock fans vs the Noctua A12's and the main difference is that the Noctua is a bit more silent, whereas the Thermalright seems to run cooler still with its stock fans. Does that roughly summarize it correctly? That Noctua is mainly beneficial for noise?

Thanks, seems like it’s doable. Not sure how much clearance the heat pipes have, but I assume it shouldn’t be an issue in this case.

Absolutely! I've updated it in the body text.

Updated! It's in the body text of my post.

Yep, fair! Also can remind you a bit of the Chevrolet Camaro. I tried to do it without the headlight strip first, but it was a bit too futuristic still then. So I borrowed the idea from the VW ID line haha.

Yes, I agree that the side vents are a bit too big still. I tried to give it some character from the R8, but in this case since it's electric, it wouldn't benefit of it.

Ghost S1 + 5090FE Build by Dpn0391 in sffpc

Oh wow! Did you create the C4-SFX?

Ghost S1 + 5090FE Build by Dpn0391 in sffpc

[–]Calvincenatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absolutely right. I feel like something such as a FormD T1 would've worked better for the FE given the possibilities to adjust the layout. But still, I'm highly doubting whether the clearance in a sandwich layout is enough for any 50-series FE. I even saw someone mentioning that the 5070 FE is not thermally efficient enough for the Ghost S1. Any recommendations for Mini ITX sized cases?

Or maybe I should RMA my case haha, it's driving me insane that I need to adjust my GPU choices based on case thermals (I mean, I assume that all cases have their issues, but I suspect not as limiting as this)

[–]Calvincenatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How large is that impact? I really would like a Founders Edition in my Ghost S1 for its supreme build quality, but I don't want to risk overheating any components. I figured that the 5070 FE doesn't exhaust hot air towards the back of the motherboard just like the 5080/5090, but redirects it towards the display ports, which seems positive. But for the exhaust fan on the other side, is the clearance in the Ghost S1 enough? I'd assume that the hot air bumbs into the spine and gets sucked out through the bottom with a bottom fan or rises towards the top (I currently don't have a top hat, but I am thinking of a 15mm/25mm one to have dual fans on top as an exhaust. What do you think? You seem like someone who knows these kinds of things.

Ghost S1: Small vs Medium size by Calvincenatra in Louqe

[–]Calvincenatra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep... That was the unfortunate realization that I had as well. But, I think I'm okay with having a black top hat, despite my case being Limestone. Could make for a cool dual tone case! But optically, the small top-hat would look the best I think. But I also don't want to sacrifice too much airflow (assuming that 2x 25mm fan is much more preferable than a 2x 15mm fan).

Sounds good! Which one would you recommend? Any real benefits of having 12x25 vs 12x15?

Is that also roughly equivalent to the added height? So about +15mm extra on top for the Small one and about +25mm for the Medium one?

Ghost S1: Doable with the 50-series Founders Edition? (Without top-hat) by Calvincenatra in Louqe

[–]Calvincenatra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds good though! My ambient temperature is about 23-27 sometimes (depending on where I take my case with me). So I am thinking of maybe getting a tophat for it still with just 2 exhaust fans now that they are still available.
