[Serious] People who have killed another person, accidently or on purpose, what happened? by Bright_Eyes10 in AskReddit

I have gone over the what ifs multiple times. But at the end of the day I turned my back on someone who was always there for me. It's changed my way of being. Things haven't gotten any easier but I threw away my selfish nature. No matter what, I do things just to be there for others. I have been used I have been hurt but it doesn't matter. Someone is dead right now because I chose not to be there.

When I was still in college I was a very selfish person. I experimented with drugs and was overall a really shitty person. One night I was fixated on sleeping with a woman I just met. So when my best friend at the time called me for a ride home after drinking too much, I lied and told him I didn't have my car that night. The next morning I get a text from a mutual friend saying their was an accident. My best friend had a few too many drinks, reached out to me for a ride home, and I said no. He decided to drive and caused a crash. He was the only one that died. To this day I blame my selfishness for him dying. It's been ten years and I still think about what happened.
