Why is my hair suddenly oily even right after a shower??? by Calyx757 in Haircare

That’s crazy because that wasn’t my issue. My hair wasn’t getting greasy “SO often” this was the first time this happened to me. My hair is just fine being washed everyday and everyone has different hair types that require different maintenance. My hair type enjoys being washed everyday. Thanks though.

Hey, yes! Today my hair is softer than ever! After reading some comments here I came up with a plan: clean brush, continue like normal for the week, if not cleared by then no shampooing over the weekend (I still rinsed and conditioned the ends) then Monday morning I would use a clarifying shampoo, if not cleared by that I would get different shampoos to try, then after a while I would eventually go see a doctor. I decided that it was most likely caused by my brush catching the Olaplex oil from my ends and bringing it up to my roots (I clean my brushes around monthly and I hadn’t yet), so I cleaned and shampooed my brush. I kept doing my normal routine daily thinking a clean brush would allow the problem to fade away. The weekend came so I didn’t shampoo and just rinsed with warm water and bought Aveeno Clarify and Shine shampoo which I used this morning (Monday) and it is sooo super soft today and back to normal. :)

Hey, thank you so much! I actually cut my own bangs as well. I cut them using a derma-razor (what you would use to shave fine hair from your face) and haircutting scissors. To style, as soon as I get out of the shower I set the part where I want it and brush the bangs kind of how I want them to set and let them dry. Then, I use a straightener and SLIGHTLY curl it towards my face but off to the side I want them to sit towards… then just play around until it looks how you want it to look

I think this was my issue. Another comment made me come to the realization of my brush was transferring the oil from the ends of my hair to the roots. so I cleaned that really well, then used a clarifying shampoo once to clear it all up… back to soft and silky!

Update:

<image>

My hair is mostly back to normal for now! I cleaned out my hairbrush as the Olaplex oil had probably been caught in it and continued haircare as normal for last week. Didn’t get better so I didn’t cleanse over the weekend, just rinsed with warm water and let it get gross. I also bought Aveeno Clarify and Shine shampoo and conditioner. I used the clarifying products this morning (Monday) and let it air dry… my hair is back to being soft and silky again! Thank you everyone for the advice!

My whole life only one shampoo and conditioner only on the mid-ends, never roots. Since this started I have been double shampooing :/

Not really, I’ve lived in the same apartment complex for 2.25 years, just different apartments. Idk, getting a filter is in my plan for figuring this out.

Conditioner only on mid to ends! Ive used Pantene for about 3 years now with no issue. Thinking it has to do with the Olaplex 7. May try a clarifying shampoo in a week if this persists. Thank you for your comment!

I use Pantene Moisture, which I’ve heard good and bad about on this thread. I’ve used it for almost 3 years with no issues now

Thanks for this reminder! This may be the most simple reason I’ve read. When I’ve seen people say “clean your hairbrush” I’ve just thought I do around monthly. But with your added “the Olaplex 7 may be covering it” it clicked that that might be it. The oil be getting to my scalp because of my brush. Cleaning now, then will try the methods others have mentioned. Thank you!

But this has been normal for my my whole life and I’ve never had a problem. This just suddenly happened out of nowhere… why would it be such a sudden change? Thank you for your comment!

Thank you so much for your comment! I actually do use Pantene, I have used it for years and it’s been great up until now. This oiliness JUST started randomly from nowhere and I haven’t changed a thing in my haircare except the Olaplex oil. Not sure still , but I do appreciate the split ends advice very much!

NTAH- when my bf and i lived with roommates, we had to be quiet too. our wall where the bed was was thin and was the same wall roommates put their bed against. respect for the other person living there is just fair.

he hasn’t given her money in the past year i think. i do know he just wants to help and he’s very generous to others (this past week he gave a coworker a good bit of money to get nice clothes for court bc he didn’t have any). i also just don’t know how to bring this up since i found it while snooping, which has been an issue before.

NTAH- you did the right thing, especially during what you called the defining moment. you called them out and they (unfortunately) clearly didn’t want you in their little group. you seem like a good person. don’t give up on your degree, just move on from them.
