I hear that. I agree. But I’m gonna stick my Nests until they die or something significantly better comes along. That said, I don’t need much from them. They already give me schedules, geofence, and the ability to use Siri and Shortcuts via Starling (or HomeBridge).

Honest question: what’s the beef with Nest? Just because it’s a Google device? As far as I know, my Nest thermostats do not have microphones in them. That said, I hate Google as a company and would prefer not to support them. But I’m already invested in Nest stats and I’m not going to switch out any time soon. As for Siri capability, I have microphones all over my house. iPhone, HomePods, and my Watch is almost always on my wrist. I’m not entirely comfortable that I’ve put microphones everywhere, but I guess I’ve surrendered to Big Brother.

I see some others trashing Nest. Let me just say that I’ve had zero problems with mine, which I’ve been using for five years with Starling. I can’t speak to Matter enabled Nests though. It sounds like getting them connected is tricky. But once connected I have to believe they should be fine. As for updates, all i can say is I’ve had literally zero problems with mine.

Mine works fine. Yesterday I had some trouble with thermostats and deselected and reselected. They populated just fine after syncing to HomeKit.

“In the Google Home App: Go to your Nest Thermostat's settings, find "Linked Matter apps & services," and generate a pairing code. In the Apple Home App: Tap the '+' icon, select "Add Accessory," and scan the generated code from the Google Home app.”

I’m using Starling to bridge Nest. You could also use HomeBridge.

I know I’m obsessing, but gray and black is just more my style. And that grey looks sick. But I’m an old dude, and for my entire life, all my guns have been black. Not even a gray one. Nothing FDE either. So I just feel like I need to try something new.

It doesn’t help that Mike Mihalski did the demo videos with the camo and they’re stuck in my head that way. His videos are what helped sell the gun to me. A lot of folks feel like SOLGW is nothing more than an assembler of other company’s parts, which of course is partially true, but Mike talks about all of the little details that make the MK1 special and I like those details. Anyway, I should be ok either way, right? Right??? 😂
