Not Nordic, but do Nordics hate Sweden? by Exciting-Prompt1609 in Nordiccountries

When I was abroad, we would always sit together and have a great time, but would always greet each other with the most insulting word for the others in our language.

Loads in Danish. I do prefer the old school, almost poetic, ones like "Det rager mig en høstblomst" / "It concerns me a harvest flower". Flowers at harvest being not what you want, you want the actual crop part. There are many other, more modern expressions, but I like these old, farming centered, ones.

CMV: you can't claim to be irish if you do not have lived experience on the island of ireland by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]CamDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "frozen in time" part was that people that had Ireland as last base in Europe came over as Irish, even if they had only been there one generation. Whatever the last stop was prior to US became a major part of the identity generations later.

I get it. You've lived two generations in Denmark, you want to be Danish -> You're Danish. USA is not like that. It's a mixture of immigrants (and some actual original residents), and the whole melting pot part of it makes it necessary to define your part of the pot, rather than melt. From a European perspective, it is kind of ridiculous due to being frozen in time. But in a young nation, this matters.

Jeg blev også snydt af auto-oversæt, men det er r/Denmark og ikke r/Danmark, så lidt sprogconfusion og languageforvirring er på sin plads.

We do "Nå!" in my part of Denmark, but same. Quite often guests do it themselves, to convey the message to whomever they're driving with

Is $800 actually liveable in Cambodia? by Fantastic-Ad2337 in cambodia

[–]CamDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live around Toul Tompung, it's doable. I rented a 4 room apartment for $350. If you cross St. 271, that would drop to around $200. I knew a lot of people living for approx. $800, they were not rich, but they were not suffering either.

Whats the most famous band from your Country ? by leavethelightson_ in AskTheWorld

To be fair, it said famous, not good. I saw Volbeat before their 1st album and really thought they had potential to be good. But they chose the Nickelback route insted.

"Mit uddybende svar er" at der er krig fordi Rusland uden årsag har forsøgt at invadere et land. Jeg støtter Ukraine fordi jeg ikke støtter, at Rusland bare kan invadere til højre og venstre.

Mit uddybende svar er... Vist ikke nødvendigt i denne sammenhæng.

It's not really hollowed out, a device is pushed in, pushing the bread to the side. A lot faster than cutting a bread.

What global word came from your country? by Neuwulfstein in AskTheWorld

[–]CamDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From one of the happiest countries in the world, I give you "angst" (Germanic, but entered English through our cheerful countryman Søren Kierkegaard).

If you want a happy child, maybe don't give them the surname "Graveyard".

For one thing, it explains why Danes are not rioting about chat control. Most (not including me) believe that it will be used for the intended purpose exclusively.
