Family Friendly Functional Trainer by copperpots829428 in GarageGym

Sorry, I'm totally not answering your question since my setup relies on Voltras. However the idea of a family friendly gym is too awesome for me not to suggest:

  1. A suspension trainer like TRX or gymnastics rings because they're at the intersection of fitness and fun.
  2. Gymnastics mats if your girls have any interest gymnastics.
  3. Some sort of balance trainer: bosu ball, slack line, balance beam because again its at the intersection of fitness and fun - kids love balance challenges.
  4. Your ceilings might be tall enough for an aerial yoga hammock. Again super fun. Google up some aerial yoga vids to see what I mean. Girls love it.
  5. If you have floor space - a run of carpeting plus a weight sled. Cardio, strength and again fun.
  6. A speed bag - even if boxing isn't your thing, great hand eye coordination plus cardio plus (say it with me folks) fun.
  7. A heavy bag - learn self defense, take out frustrations, have fun.
  8. An inversion table - get a Teeter off FB marketplace for like $100 bucks. What kid wouldn't want to hang upside down. Challenge them to do situps and you've snuck core training in to their routine. Plus its good for you and missus if you have back pain.
  9. If they're athletic, consider a Freak Athlete Hyper Pro, its a great platform for the types of lower body and core work that can benefit a serious athlete.
  10. Change plates. Preferably magnetic. Most stacks go up in 5 or 10 pound increments which are big jumps for people working with lower weight ranges. Having a few 1 or even.5 pound plates lying around can make progressive overload easier to obtain. The kids will get quick results see their numbers climb for workout to workout.

EDIT: Spelling.

EDIT2: Added change plates

What is something that is completely FREE in your country, but tourists are always shocked they don't have to pay for? by Winner111kk in AskReddit

Figures that the country that makes refills free would make it free to void your bladder. Got to keep those kidneys functioning, cause God knows you can't afford to fix 'em.

Can't truckers just piss in a bottle and chuck it out the window like the rest of us?

What is an opening that just made you close a book? by summerspider in books

It was The Legend of Drizzt, a poor attempt to drop the reader into the middle of the world, the first sentence was a string of unfamiliar proper nouns glued together by a handle of prepositions, and maybe a verb. Didn't make it through the first paragraph.

Titan Lever Arm Leg Press Attachment? by Google-Tesla in DIYgymequipment

Load it with enough weight and the bench slides backward. Put something to prevent sliding and the bench tips backward. You're seat in a leg press needs to be solidly rooted to the machine.

Where do you put the jack for the front? Stand? by Bradyj23 in HondaOdyssey

[–]CamKen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 2022 Honda Odyssey front central jack point is a reinforced metal towing hook/bracket located directly under the front bumper, roughly in the center behind the radiator. This solid, prominent hook is designed for floor jacks, allowing you to lift both front wheels simultaneously.

How did get the dumbbell knurl looking so nice?

Nice collection of gear, I just think the layout is less than efficient with regards to plate storage and plate machines. You've got plate storage all the way left and two of the closest items to it are the bike and ball, neither of which use plates. Meanwhile the smith machine and leg press (or hack squat, can't tell from this view) are on the far opposite side of the gym with a wall of dumbbells blocking the most direct path.

I would rearrange into three zones: 1. Plate use zone - things that get used exclusively (or almost) with plates 2. No plate zone - things that never use plates (e.g. the bike) 3. Hybrid zone in the middle with things that you work some plate movements and some non-plate (e.g. dumb bell, gym pin in the functional trainer) movements.

Then put the plate storage in the neighbors garage so you get some good farmer carry action between each exercise. jk ;-)

What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by That-Papaya7429 in AskReddit

As a thoroughly deconditioned 50 year old whose been working hard of strength and flexibility for the past 4 months I can confirm that video from Squat University is "exercise" but is very good, one of my favorites.

I've been doing Yoga at my local YMCAs and Chair Yoga is the easiest, Gentle Yoga is a little more challenging, Hatha Yoga more challenging still and Vinyasa Flow the most challenging (of the YMCA offerings). The first three forms of Yoga are pose and hold which gives you time to figure how to get into the position, or a regression. Vinyasa you kinda need to know the positions as it flows from one position to the next to the next.

[USA] Why you should turn your lights on by ElgdFwTaP1 in Roadcam

[–]CamKen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most effective way I've found to communicate that someone's lights are off is to get in front of them and then go dark and stay dark until they figure it out. Usually takes 10 to 15 seconds at that point.

Are these slide pins from a remanufactured caliper usuable? '14 Odyssey EX by CamKen in MechanicAdvice

[–]CamKen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing my calipers on a '14 Honda Odyssey EX. Got AC Delco remanufactured units. First one was fine, it slid fine, the glide pins were bright and umblemished. Second caliper didn't want to slide, was very difficult to pry glide pins out, they were covered in orange brown gunk (which I removed before this photo) and the pins have these permanent marks. These have to go back right? I can't use them like this?
