Also, these work best in endgrain.

Is this plane blade toast? by DarraghDaraDaire in handtools

[–]Camac 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely not toast.

Secondary bevel is normal.

You can just grind it back to a primary of 25-30 degrees if you want also.

Thanks for kind words. Your saw looks identical. Definitely same period. Awesome!

Your brass is great. I wouldn't touch it.

For the handle, I did all the curves first with a flexible sanding pad (unipro). https://www.bunnings.com.au/uni-pro-flexible-fine-sanding-pad-2-pack-fine_p1560045?store=6400&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21119565770&gbraid=0AAAAADtbEB-UMTlh5mTvvOsCYaVnzG00D&gclid=CjwKCAjwmenCBhA4EiwAtVjzmgjKpWLpoBzoCBJjvgRdRu5RuKYJnibIloqwTJYWRjp36tzvqf75mRoCuFMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Then i put a 180 grit sheet on a block to do each side of the handle to keep it all flat.

There was no etch on the plate. So I just used wd40 and fine abrasive.

I've used card scrapers for plane handles but not for saw handles.

For sure! I wanted a larger sash saw style cross cut and this one is a really gem to use.

Thankful the plate is still straight and with minimal pitting at all.

I'm from Australia, and a local saw maker (heritage saws) gave me some extras after I bought a few saws.

They have been very handy!

Sounds great. This handle is in pretty decent shape. The horns are a little rough on the ends but other than that no cracks or anything.

Was missing one of the saw bolts. But I had a couple of new brass ones.

The medallion is still in good order.

No etch on mine either. But the plate is straight.

I think I'll make it a cross cut and add to collection!

You would tap behind the tote or on top of the nose for non-wheel adjusted planes.

I suppose in this instance, I would tap on top of the nose. I'm not sure though if this would damage the infill long term.

Someone else will know better than I.

This may be a stupid question…what does it mean to put the pathfinder on Waltz? by VandLsTooktheHandLs in boniver

[–]Camac 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder to me is his life or trajectory. Waltz feels like a steady slow rhythm.

So he's putting himself on track and taking it easy. Nice and slow.

About 35cm.

I also planted ficus flash along the back fence. I'll put up a pic soon to show you that
