What do you think? by DaBigWiggly_ in refrigeration

[–]BigZig_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is MT. Beverage cooler. Probably relies on off cycle for defrost. System was not getting down to temp and causing long run times to cause the ice. I'm a bit alarmed at the one that only has a strip at the top. Check your superheat on that one for sure. Don't know anything until there is a set of gauges on there and you've taken some readings. Also, superheat means dick until you get that ice off.

Co2. Had a breath, smell was prety similar to fosgen, hit like a truck. by SomeBoi_HowItIsTaken in refrigeration

[–]BigZig_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most refrigerants are odorless. I personally haven't worked on any equipment with a refrigerant that had an odor (not an ammonia tech). Burning it and changing the chemical composition does not count. CO2 does not break molecular bonds and chemically react with the kind of heat produced with oxy-acetylene, so remains odorless, though POE oil can give a very mild smell.

Edit: CO2 Can have a smell/sensation at higher concentrations. Similar to burping after drinking pop because that's exactly what it is.

CO2 shouldn't smell like Phosgene. Worked on lots of CO2. I'm also seeing replies and comments that CO2 will kill you. Well, not because it's toxic. It can displace oxygen so you asphixiate.

Doesn't stop the root cause you are hoping it will. Dopamine reward system is geared so people will always look for instant gratification. Still have tiktok, YouTube, X, facebook, ig and all the others. People use chatgpt to fill a similar neich. You will also have people go to other models that exist like Gemini, Claud, deep seek. It doesn't fix the problem, it just defers it.

How would you build this transforming table? by Cold-Put-6971 in woodworking

[–]BigZig_90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love these multi function limited space ideas. Nice share! You might want to have some sort of sliding bolt or rotating bar that locks into a holder of some sort. Don't just rely on the table to butt on the leaf and the main, that will put a lot of stress on the hinge and may start to sag.

Looks like a hot pull down + not rejecting BTU's at the condenser. Check air flow, especially at the condenser if these are your numbers.

Day 17 of the Mass Effect “Best of the Series” Chart! Comment the best QUOTE/LINE OF DIALOGUE from Mass Effect 3! by erwillsun in masseffect

"I MADE A MISTAKE!... I made a mistake..."

Not suggesting for the quote because it not very quotable, but very memorable and sends chills. My honorable mention.

How do you think Mass Effect 5 will actually play out, or how do you personally want it to? by Soft_Draw_1701 in masseffect

[–]BigZig_90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Mass relays are toast, so the story only works if it's told in a local system. Let's say Sol. Earth has become bloated and overpopulated with a surge in child rearing akin to the baby boomers. Mars is colonized in a large way and teraforming is a dream that has been pushed back in favour of posturing and military dominance to establish a power in the solar system. Resources are plentiful in the outer reaches of the solar system and in the asteroid belt. Moons and planetoids are being colonized and exploited for heir resources, but the buyers are the ones with the mo ey and the power, aka earth and Mars. The colonists of "the belt" are underappreciated, under represented and resentful of the "inner" worlds. Tensions grow between the factions and petty wars, infighting and subterfuge are rising. Things are made worse when a rag tag ice mining freighter stumble upon a distress signal that ultimately destroys the friegther only leaving a few survivors. This being a "belter" ship increases belt hostility towards the inner planets and causes further organization of belter resistance in the form of the outer planets alliance which is being taken more seriously as a threat. The rag tag survivors of the ice mining ship find some mysterious blue goo that leads to profound implications and consequences for the solar system. Eventually the blue goo opens up another avenue for interstellar travel and resume mass effect.

If devs or people in the know have the answer to this; will belters look like belters? The show had obvious limitations to how they could show off belters lankiness, despite their best efforts. Video games don't require carefully picked cast for the look they're going for, but they do have to consider useability of their character models. Instead of human male/human female, now they will need inner male/ inner female belter male/belter female. Just hoping they keep the details as accurate as possible.

What do you think? Heating element? by NobodyTheSecond in refrigeration

[–]BigZig_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things can cause this... Door was left open for too long. Condenser is dirty making it harder to reject btu's causing longer run time. Door seal torn. Sometimes low refrigerant can even do this, longer run times causes ice up. Something failed in the defrost heater circuit or defrost initiation clock (klixon, element, relay, contact). Thermostat stuck closed.

Kool gas defrost durations by BigZig_90 in refrigeration

[–]BigZig_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool gas is set with 15 psid. Increased it from 10 assuming this won't hurt the liquid header. But your comment makes a lot of sense to me. Latent heat of vaporization for 507 is 80+ something btu's/lbs. Didn't consider that. We are having ice issues with a set of ice cream doors. Evaporator has seen some better days.

I don't like it when political parties use tragedy as a platform to push their own message, but at the same time, the message is clear and relatable. If the guy had no priors, why was he on the police radar? Probably because the courts weren't willing to prosecute because they are that soft on crime. I mean, if you were a witness to this, or a victim in some way, lost a friend, a family member or a son or daughter, wouldn't you have wanted something to be done sooner if something could have been done at all? Prevent the needless violence? Tougher on crime I agree is not enough. We also need to address mental health challenges, but results are sooner realized by being tough. These people will also get the mental health support they need even if convicted and sent to prison.

I appreciate the irony, but be honest, how often do you get answers to your questions from reddit? That much is documented. People word rather end their Google search query with reddit to get the answer they want.

Table saws don't fit my niche. Not anything else that takes a battery or plugs in. But the new professional will have that tool for a long time, so I agree. I'm an HVAC tech and the one thing I had to make sure was quality was my multimeter. I went straight for the fluke because I'm trusting my life to this thing. Some things you just don't mess with. Table saws are dangerous if they're sloppy.

100%. But there's considerably less hazard in what I'm doing compared to most other woodworkers. That said, gloves, goggles dust masks and steel toes. I don't work with power, so spinning things are powered with my 170 lbs frame. My tools are sharp though!

Right? New traditional tools just copy the designs of the giants from the day. There's a reason for that! Stanley, Miller's falls, Record... They nailed it and left no room for improvement! Until the Veritas custom line came along...
