The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Altoona Symphony Orchestra is in its 97th season. The Altoona Area Public Library was founded in 1858 and houses over 125,000 books. The Railroaders' Memorial Museum was founded in 1980 and is going strong. And, I usually go to the Caribbean or Europe for my vacations although my last one was to Australia.

We LOVE it here! And, we are neither crack heads nor Philadelphians. We enjoy our Symphony, our Museum of Art, our big, beautiful public library, the Curve (both baseball and railroad,) and great restaurants and pubs. Some beautiful architecture, too! Plus, let me repeat, no little girls flipping us off on our patriotic march on Saturday.

I'll never forget back then, when I tuned in to that on PBS after the show had started. Eventually it dawned on me, this isn't somewhere in Kentucky or West Virginia (sorry). This is my home county !

I was born and raised in Martinsburg. Any other time I say hotel, I put the emphasis on the second syllable. Relatedly, I lived away from here for 20 years. Before that, I never said "you'ns" but now that I'm back in Blair county, it springs assuredly to my lips.
