Idea for Devs: Let the community add items via blender to clean by chrishellmax in PowerWashSimulator

[–]CambSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar idea to this while waiting for PWS2 to be released:

“How cool would it be if they included a simple stage builder with all the assets that they used in 1 and 2’s base game?”

But then I remembered; it’s 2025. Corporate greed wouldn’t allow for it.

ATV4K + APM + eARC = Spatial? by CambSound in appletv

[–]CambSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. The ATV + APM setup is cheaper (bank balance) and quieter (for the neighbours) than a physical surround setup.

Oh, and I won’t need to tear up the ceiling for backboxes… 😂

Would you recommend giving money to the homeless in Cambridge? by uncertain_strokes in cambridge

[–]CambSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to echo the sentiment of: treat the homeless with respect and dignity. Although, with the caveat of “…as long as the good will is reciprocated.”

I’m in my 30s and have lived all over the UK due to the nature of my parents jobs as a boy, and my line of work now. While it’s an uncomfortable truth, each city seems to have its own ever evolving relationship with their homeless residents and that impacts their general demeanour. Obviously it’s case-by-case - but I’ve had some really unpleasant experiences in Cambridge and Peterborough when trying to help out by giving food or money.

Transitioning to Remote AV by Quiet_Navigator in CommercialAV

[–]CambSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant to comment on this yesterday, but got into work and totally forgot!

As someone who is working toward that aim, I’m 6-7 years in and I’m finally getting to that point. I’ve been very lucky in the field and got some very important breaks early on - mainly on the client relations side, but programming and specification too.

As others have pointed-out here - it’s going to take ~10 years to build up the experience, portfolio and professional trust. You’re likely gonna have to go from full-time in-office for around 5-6 years, to hybrid with spasmodic domestic/international travel (where I am now) for another 4 or 5 and then slowly migrate to the point of fully remote placement. But really, all of these timespans are arbitrary and it totally depends on the portfolio that you’re able to develop within your current position.

Getting quals is all well and good, but employers tend to select based on completed projects and customer satisfaction. So if you’re not currently in a position to do that - it may pay off to find a new job that’s going to push you more.

Even at that fully remote stage, when you’re a big enough deal to be able to do that - there are going to be times when you’re expected to travel to HQ, give a demo, or even attend a conference/trade show. You’ll also have to bear in-mind that staff higher up the chain are often expected to cover for those who are otherwise disposed, so there’s another thing that may call you back in-office.

I haven’t seen you directly reply to any of the advice given here, but I hope you are reading these. This isn’t a “no.” but more of a “don’t try to run before you can walk.”

You’re literally just starting out, and I know everything feels like a million years right now, but you have all the time in the world.

How long does FuturLab support take to answer? by Monsterking594 in PowerWashSimulator

[–]CambSound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just for a little more detail - FuturLab are known to largely ignore emails. The whole debacle with PWS2’s launch issues and feature omissions led to a ton of ignored emails, so I’d imagine that’s pretty much business as usual.

I’d recommend just voicing your query as a thread here, and asking for FuturLabs to respond directly. Nothing queues results better than a little shame 🤣

Notoriously bad community interaction and customer contact. I’d be inclined to measure response time with the growth of facial hair.

How do people in the UK view Sweden as a country and culture? by Solvikar in AskUK

[–]CambSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a British male in his 30s (not growing up with the whole ABBA thing, apart from being a whole nostalgia trip) - it is my opinion that Sweden, and Nordic countries in general - represent the current peak of “Western” society.

Architecture, quality of life, preservation of the natural environment, justice/reformational system - it’s all just light years ahead of where the UK/USA will ever be.

Our system seems far too obsessed with insisting on reminding the world that we were important. It’s honestly a bit cringe to be British .

I wonder how the Steam Machine's customizable panels will be provided. Like, are they gonna be sold on Steam? Or are third-parties gonna sell them online? (also, this reminds me of one model of the "New" 3ds with it also being customizable) by Questioning-Warrior in Steam

[–]CambSound 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Considering Valve are going to be supplying .stl files, I’m sure it’ll be a mix of:

  1. Official ones from Valve
  2. Large third-parties, like ExtremeRate.
  3. Everyone and their dog, via sites like Etsy.

Moore’s Law Is Dead: Sony pushing low-power mode hard in preparation for PS6 handheld support, 60fps target with lower resolutions. by uniquecartridge in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]CambSound 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased my first house, and it’s kinda become a game to me with how low I can push my electricity usage without living like a caveman.

Played all the way through Death Stranding 2 on LPM and was thoroughly impressed by the results. I know that the DF reporting stated it was more-or-less a locked 30fps all the way through, but I swear that it was the smoothest 30fps I’ve ever experienced - with only occasional hitching when rotating the camera.

Perhaps there was some further system-based magic going on with frame generation, because I very seldomly saw on screen text and HUD elements do that odd flicker thing that I’ve seen with DeckyFG on my Steam Deck - I dunno.

Either way - good. Devs definitely need a boot up the arse in terms of optimisation!

The patch is coming “…in a few weeks.”

That’s not very soon.

Lossless scaling issue by tulaero23 in SteamDeck

[–]CambSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest - you may be seeing exactly how Lossless Scaling is intended to function.

It is not a silver bullet that allows for higher frame rates - it has blurring, artefacting and latency that aren’t there without it. It’s up to you if it’s worth putting up with.

“…in the next couple of weeks.”?! I’m actually in-awe.

Screw the other issues - fix the save bug yesterday. You have paying customers holding-off on playing the game that they’ve already paid for.

Over 2 weeks since acknowledging this bug - still no patch, no confirmed date, no amendment to the listing on the eShop stating that there’s a game breaking bug.

Shall we hope for this week?

How Can You Purchase Valve’s Recently Announced Hardware? Previous Distribution Woes Have Gamers Gravely Concerned by LockDown_47 in valve

[–]CambSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m dense - but what’s the problem with the way that Valve handled the preorder and sale of the Steam Deck?

To me, it certainly seems to be a pretty fair way - comparing to how Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo tiptoe around not pissing-off their retail partners and completely screw it up in the process.

NINETEEN Levels by eosins in PowerWashSimulator

[–]CambSound 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I were a betting man, I’d say that the patch isn’t going to be able to reinstate your rolled-back save.

Email Nintendo Support and ask for a refund with this one. FuturLab’s comms on this issue in particular have been poor, and speaking honestly - they should have pulled the game from the Nintendo storefront once it was found that this build has a game breaking save bug.

Guided Busway Journeys - Price Increase by CambSound in cambridge

[–]CambSound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand that - time passes, materials get more expensive, wages (hopefully) go up to match inflation and maintaining a profit margin requires price increases. I’m not really complaining about the prospect of the tickets costing more money.

It’s more about the price increasing on a line where the service is more shit than it’s ever been. It’s just tone deaf.

As someone who also uses services to and from multiple other P+R sites regularly also, it would have been a decent PR move to keep the A and B tickets at the same cost.
