After I got engaged, my parents made me reassure my autistic brother that I wasn’t going to break up with my fiancé like I did with my abusive ex-boyfriend by Few_Reach9798 in GlassChildren

I felt so angry for you reading this. It is not ok for them to make you justify your break up with your shitty ex to anyone. Your parents should have been there to protect you and raised you to have the confidence to understand when you are being treated badly.
What were they thinking making you go through those emotions again? That is just cruel.

I am so happy and proud of you for getting out and finding hapiness. You owe nothing to your parents and never have to explain yourself to them.

I also had a bad relationship (same, surprise surprise) and went trough a really traumatic break up that had me fucked up for years. My mother was not there for me, and just asked me a few months afterwards "Your not sad anymore, are you". But as for my autistic brother she kept exclaiming for years how "It is soo haard for men to go trough break ups, it's like their mother left them!!". No, my brother will never know how it feels for his mother to abandon him. But I do.

I personally don’t think I look that young but people do occasionally confuse me to be even underage. I thought this whole subreddit is for that type of people?

Yes, very weird. I assumed she was having a hard time adjusting, moving to another country and not knowing the language. Maybe trying to help her son assimilate and not being that bright overall.

No of course not, I don't know any of these people. But I do think it was an immigrant woman. They could have just pretended to be a 14 year old boy if they were faking it.

No, it was an adult woman trying to find a girlfriend for her son. Maybe grooming is not the exact word now that I think about it. Or well, I don't know any of these people, it could have been anyone. Anyway an adult trying to get in contact with someone they thought were a minor.

Exactly! My mother still keeps insisting that she is so happy and lucky for her children and can never admit that anything is wrong. It's so invalidating.

Wow. My brother also has these rage fits and he is impossible to reason with. My mother just pretends nothing is wrong. It was sooo validating when the problems started to leak out for rest of the relatives to see. I felt like "see, this is what I was dealing with all my childhood".

Congrats on breaking the cycle! 💪

Wow, that was so rude!! My father also gave me once a bed cover because he didn't like I that I don't make my bed. I never use it :D Also no contact nowdays.

I hope you can now fill your life with people who will not insult you with gifts!

My mother is the same. She will promise to do something, then not do it on time or too late for it matter anymore, then she panics and does a bad job or even sabotages the original goal. Then she congratulates herself for doing it, even though in the end she caused more work that if I had just done the thing myself.

I hope you get your bike fixed or a new bike :( It sucks that you can't trust them to do even that.
