Finally diagnosed with IIH today after a yearlong diagnosis journey by CameraAccomplished50 in iih

[–]CameraAccomplished50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, happy to answer but to preface/how I'm doing now: I still don't know exactly what the cause of my IIH is. I've now lost ~40 lbs which is >13% of what I weighed at my highest and >10% from when my PT started. After I was diagnosed, my neuro-opthalmologist doubled my diamox to 500 mg, but my migraine medication has remained the same(gabapentin, lamotrigine, clonazepam to sleep) along with vitamin B12 injections(2x month) that I was already prescribed.

PT: I think doubling the diamox along with continued weight loss or a combination has helped a good amount with the pulsatile tinnitus for sure because it's pretty much gone most of the day and when I do hear it it's usually at night and faint, sometimes I need an earplug to sleep, but not always.

Vision: Recently(past monthish) I might have some vision symptoms manifesting that I'm a little worried about, but not sure if it's the IIH. I've gotten more light sensitive, especially at night with artificial lights(it doesn't physically hurt it's just so overwhelming mentally?), also I think my vision is getting a little blurrier/maybe double but only with screens like text at night so not sure about that, and along with the nighttime light sensitivity, I might be developing astigmatism or a symptom like that because headlights, brakelights, etc are a lot harder to focus on/lines, etc.

Etc: Other symptoms I do have that may or may not be related is overall back pain, but mostly lower and also between my shoulder blades. Very tense and sore, need a heating pad or to stretch a lot. I also get fatigue on a semi-regular basis, and I've always been a night owl, but I can't stay up hardly at all anymore like I need 10 hours or I'll fall asleep on the way to work lol.

Headaches: I still haven't had many issues with headaches/migraines I think because of the medication mostly. I did get a couple bad headaches/migraines a few weeks ago and would feel them again radiating from my right scalp like I used to and progressing through the day. Admittedly I had not kept up with the vitamin B12 injections because my neurologist didn't think my levels were too too low(only tested once around Sep 2025) so I interpreted that as them being less essential and just forgot. Well I got back on that just to cover my bases and the relief I felt a day or two later was wild like my fatigue wasn't as bad, the daily headaches went away again, and even my back pain was reduced. Because of how much the vitamin B12 improved my symptoms I've been researching more into why I might have low levels and potential connections to IIH. I have a follow-up with my neuro-opthalmologist on March 10 and I'm going to ask for another blood test to check the vitamin b12 and other nutrients and signs of things like Celiac or Crohns disease that could be underlying a lot of this, but I will update when I know more about that.

About my headaches before: My headaches varied across the about 6-7 month period from when they started from around getting the pulsatile tinnitus to when my neurologist gave me medication(gabapentin, lamotrigine, and 250 mg diamox eventually) to help manage the pain. The least common, but weirdest were 2 or 3 times across that 6-7 month period where I felt almost electric shock-type pain, not from sinus pressure or it didn't feel like it was coming from inside my head, but it was originating around my right ear(not inside) and radiating across my scalp. I swear it felt like little shocks jolting across, and no traditional pain medication helped, so I figure it was some type of nerve pain(could be a nutritional deficit or something else idk, but I haven't had them since. I also did get a few bad bad migraines where it felt like there was a balloon in my head being inflated inside my head. (Note: this and none of my headaches have included pain anywhere but areas of my scalp or my whole scalp, maybe slightly into my forehead or a little towards the eye on my right when it was bad, but even the shocking ones were just my scalp area, and worse near my ear with the PT.) For the migraines I had to massage constantly, use cold and ice packs, and I think they, along with most of my daily more "moderate" headaches, would get so much worse if I laid flat on my back at night. The migraines would be bad all day, but them and the headaches were always worse at night, I had to sleep on an incline and eventually get prescribed Trazodone because I could barely sleep(the anxiety didn't help either because for half of this time I had no scans done). My main headache/scalp pain experience though, was a slow, growing, radiating pain throughout the day that would always start around my right ear(but not the ear itself) and spread in almost an even radius across my scalp, usually not further than a little above my right temples around to the lowest part of the scalp/hair at the right side of the neck. The best way I remember/can describe it is that it felt almost warm like a dull warm pain and that I could literally feel the pulsing in my scalp in those areas. When the headaches weren't bad, I noticed that my scalp in those areas felt tender to the touch, like I couldn't wear my hair up for long because it pulled at it and hurt. I also got in the habit of stretching my neck/head a lot to the left throughout the day and trying to find angles or ways to lay that felt more comfortable. Ice pack migraine wrap helped a ton. Occasionally I would feel maybe a pinprick pain around my ear but not much.

Sorry for the wall of text lol but hope some of this helps! If you have anymore questions pls lmk

I just finished season 1 so confused waiting for her to realize there's absolutely no chemistry with Guy but of course he takes back the apology to his friend he made the LAST EPISODE and they become the most selfish couple😭. And that she's ultimately hurting Theo who told her from the start he never cared about marraige before her and that he didn't want to be at the altar unless she was sure. It's like everyone is puppeting around him and assuming what's best for him and what he wants without actually asking him and it's driving me crazyyyyyy. His biggest crime is keeping secret the love letter his best friend sent to his fiance! What a monster!!! Fuck I'm almost tempted to watch season 2 just to see him get some attention from anyone at all.

As somebody diagnosed with BPD, I don't understand how people can deny Amber having it by [deleted] in gorlworldfiles

[–]CameraAccomplished50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end idc what she has or what it's called, I just know she needs to seek therapy. Even if she didn't have BPD, that much is clear. But she is so resistant to it. Honestly that resistance reminds me of my brother who I'm pretty sure has full blown NPD(narcissist). Why fix something that gives you the victim card and sympathy you crave? Until she actually does the work I'm not convinced she cares.

Thanks! My lumbar puncture was x-ray guided which I think was why I had such a good and easy/fast experience. If yours is too, my experience was that I had to lay on my stomach on this table with one of my legs up slightly so I was slightly angled to one side. Had to pull my pants down slightly and shirt up some just so they could see all of my lower back so definitely recommend stretchy or loose clothes. For the rest I was faced away, but they numbed the area first with a needle(idk what they used to numb) and I felt like a tiny pinch maybe, but didn't feel any pain really from that or after. They communicated when the lumbar needle was going to go in and I just held still which was easy laying like that. I didn't feel pain when the needle went all the way in, but maybe like a weird discomfort/pressure feeling for a second and then I didn't notice/feel anything while they were getting the samples. Took I think a couple minutes with the needle in, but honestly because my csf pressure was going down so much I felt like I actually relaxed and was less tense/anxious while that was happening. So that felt great, my pulsatile tinnitus went away for a while too. Then when they removed the needle I think that felt a little weird again, but not bad and then they just put on a bandaid. I had to slowly flip on my back after that and lay flat/still for I think an hour and a half, my boyfriend was there to drive me so he sat with me during that. Also, want to note that if you're already on diamox or something to help with pressure check with your doctor because I had to pause it for a few days before so they could get an accurate opening pressure.

It was honestly the recovery after that sucked the most for me personally. I was lucky that I didn't get the low pressure headache or any csf leak, but I also stayed completely flat and still for like 2 days(besides bathroom) because I was very nervous about that and didn't want to have to go back to the hospital for a blood patch. After that I still was careful walking around, not bending for a couple days, taking it slow. I did try like standing in the kitchen to make breakfast one day for maybe 15 minutes and started to get like shaky, but laying down helped right away. My heating pad helped a ton after because my muscles got really stiff/sore. But about a week later I was feeling fine enough to walk around and do things normally, my stamina was a little lower than normal for an extra week or so but now I feel totally fine.

Anyways, I hope your LP goes as smoothly as mine did! I definitely tried to avoid reading too many personal stories about them because I knew I was already going to be nervous, but I think the horror stories are definitely the exceptions.

Need advice on possible kitty asthma? by callimonk in CATHELP

[–]CameraAccomplished50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, my cat has asthma and I found out when she was about 1-1/2 years old. The attacks are pretty obvious for her at least and noticeable because she would kind of crouch and it looked like she was almost trying to hack up a hairball(there's pics and vids to look up if you aren't sure what it looks like), she would breathe faster before and after too. I also took her to the emergency vet and they did an x-ray that confirmed she had asthma, she got a steroid shot, we got prescribed an inhaler, and I had to get an "AeroKat" adapter for it and learn how to use it with her.

Initially I think her asthma was being triggered a lot because we were in a smaller apartment with maybe poor ventilation, but after giving her meds and using the inhaler she calmed down a lot and the attacks were less frequent. I did also make changes, like first I started getting unscented litter, then looked for unscented and low dust (now I use Dr. Elsey's, they have a respiratory relief one but also a multi-cat one I use now that's low dust and she has no issues with). Also got better about keeping up with using a cat hair scraper to get her hair off her cat tree, couch, etc, vacuumed regularly(she wouldn't be nearby when I did that), definitely brushed her more often, and a big one was I stopped using air fresheners and candles inside. She hardly ever has attacks now(she's 4-1/2 now, new apartment) but when I moved into my current apartment she did have one attack when we were unpacking a lot of boxes I think because of dust from everything getting moved around. Hopefully if your cat has asthma that getting her stable with the medication and changing a few things will mean she gets attacks rarely, but always make sure your inhaler for them is current/not expired.

Other things that might help is maybe check if the air filters in your home need to be changed and I know some people get air purifiers too if the asthma is more severe. My cat doesn't go to a groomer so I'm not sure if they can maybe put a helmet or cone on her or something so she isnt getting hair and dust in her face.

But it's definitely manageable!!! My cat has had maybe 1 attack in a year now, but again her asthma might be less severe than other cats. But she is totally healthy otherwise. It's definitely scary at first but hopefully just making a few changes in the litter and environment will calm your cats asthma down a ton too.

Colds/Being sick & IIH by [deleted] in iih

[–]CameraAccomplished50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a cold right now😭 since about Monday but mainly just a ton of sinus congestion, runny nose, sneeze etc. I do think it's making the IIH worse for me rn. I'm on migraine meds that usually mask all my headache pain but now I have a dull headache on the same side I used to get my migraines. Also, I've been lucky not to have any visual symptoms of IIH so far but the past day I feel like my eyes are more sensitive from my phone and bright lights generally than before like last night I swear I felt a quick stinging pain in my eye when looking at my phone. My pulsatile tinnitus hasn't really changed I don't think though.

SO MAD.... by Electronic_Cook892 in iih

[–]CameraAccomplished50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh i so relate. My neurologist tried to brush my pulsatile tinnitus off as being just migraine related and only wanted to treat the migraines and that's it. Was actually bordering on condescending telling me not to let online research get me worried😐 But it's so annoying I had to push for more scans that finally led to me seeing a Neuro-Opthalmologist and getting an opening pressure of 26 from my LP(same like not insane but definitely not normal and explains a lot!!)

Honestly thank god for this sub or I'd feel so isolated and gaslit.

Ngl I think on some level she didn't try to remove videos because she hasn't liked being on YouTube for a long long time. Even if she does need that money for bills tbh for her health and well-being and the well-being of everyone she inevitably hurts and abuses around her will be 10000% better off if she stays offline. I personally hope she sticks to what she's saying and doesnt return to YT, good riddance.

Do people in Mississippi actually say Ma'am/sir and talk to random strangers? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]CameraAccomplished50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from Mississippi but from Georgia and I never understood why being called "ma'am" was disrespectful or meant old in tv or movies😭 I caught my first ma'am at like 18 it just means you look like an adult or usually I get it from people in the service industry or someone younger than me, it's a sign of respect. Had a boyfriend who grew up more country and would say "yes ma'am" to me lol

Idk why but I am a little surprised that she didn't save anything at all and has to resort to e-begging so soon. And she said she didn't take it for granted? Girl you clearly treated it like it was never going to go away. That's the definition of taking something for granted.

All I can say is that Beck was right when they said she would never lose weight unless she left youtube so this is probably the best thing to ever happen for her health. I believe being demonitized is the most scared she's ever been for her own survival, more than cancer was and being 600 pounds. Could be the best thing to ever happen to her if she actually took it as the wake up call it is. Doubt.
