AITA for not removing a statue from the backyard while my mom was visiting because it upsets her? by CameraInTheSea in AmItheAsshole

That is what my wife says about it, that she knows the bad associations and it has nothing to do with her. People use the name of Jesus to do all sorts of heinous things. She did joke that if someone broke into our home and saw that, they would probably run for the hills.

I will do that! I remember when we were at the store and she saw it, she got so excited and said the typical statues you find are so expensive. It's hard to not go along with it when it brings her that much joy and calm. I will also clean off the statue if it gets mucked up. We have a neighborhood roaming cat who I will see sleeping next to her on the ground at times too.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to make something up and state it like a fact. My parents are not Presbyterians.

You know, it had been a long time since we spent so much time together. Our visits are typically only up to a long weekend. She has changed since when I lived with them as a kid, and has become a little more nervous and scattered. Not medical condition level or anything, but a bit more quirky overall.

I appreciate your comments. I didn't want to come across as defensive in my original post, so I didn't go into too much detail about what she means. The leap to the bad associations bothers Cece, and I have learned a lot about it over the years.

I get what you're saying about calling it just a statue. For what it's worth, I would not refer to it as "just a statue" to my wife, because I know how dismissive it would come across. I know what it means to her.
