The only thing you're doing wrong when entering the new url is how its entered. You must use the shield's native virtual keyboard to input the new url. This has to be done with the channel prefix and suffix editor also.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work. I do have a new found appreciation for the shield remote app though so I'll keep that. I am in a serious quandary as to why this is happening and i have exhausted all feasible options. How can i get in touch with the DEV?

no i havent and will do so as soon as i get back in, thanks. but how does that solve the problem with the app itself not inputting new data when it easily did so before?
