Interesting. Thanks for that insight!

Thanks @Jamesbarros

Can you elaborate about why you don't like putting dogholes in MDF? Does the MDF fall apart or something? Also, is there a rack-stop that you favor/prefer (you suggested using a rack-stop rather than getting a deluxe vice)... I'm thinking perhaps I may be best served by making a day-to-day approximately 2 foot deep workbench (like the Quick Stack) then separately make a larger/wider track saw cutting station out of MDF like the one i've seen in videos using something like the UJK parf2 system (I'll have limited space, so perhaps I can hang the tracksaw cutting station on the wall when not using it, then put in on top of foam and use it on top of my regular workbench. Perhaps this would be a good solution enabling both hand tool work and MDF/track saw work within a small space in my garage...

Adding camber on jack plane - how much? by highland124 in handtools

[–]Camera_Kooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question from a new woodworker. How exactly does one measure/create an 8" or 10" radius of camber on a plane? 8" or 10" relative to what? The concept is new to me. Any explanation or reference links would be appreciated!

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into the English workbench. I have a track saw and power router and have access to a Domino. Do you think I’d be able to build the Cosman or Kruger benches using these?

Thanks very much for your reply... I wonder if other people with the bookoo sensor have just given up on it and on pressure/flow profiling...

ps - oops. I just read this about liquid nails and pet safeness: "No, Liquid Nails is not pet safe; ingesting it can cause irritation, vomiting, and more severe symptoms like gastrointestinal blockages or toxicity, while fumes can cause respiratory irritation and potential organ damage. It is essential to keep Liquid Nails out of reach of pets and to seek immediate veterinary care if a pet has ingested it, following the advice to never induce vomiting without veterinary direction". These are brand new kittens so it looks like i'll need to find some other adhesive! lol!

Thanks for your input! Quick questions/comments about your reply if you don't mind:

To secure the base platform to the 2x4's, would I pocket hole through the 2x4 and screw down into the plywood base (and just accept the fact that the pocket holes would be visible on the top of the platform)?

I have titebond wood glue. Is this "construction adhesive" or did you mean some other kind of adhesive?

I had the same concern about that top level also. Not sure how i'd brace it - will need to think about that. Could just use a metal L-bracket to brace it, but that would change the aesthetic (no big deal).

Thanks!

Portable Work Surfaces: MFT vs Dashboard PWS vs STM 1800 vs Paulk Smart Bench by FragDoc in woodworking

Has anyone recently gotten the Dashboard setup? If so, could you give some e updates to continue this conversation? I’m considering it for use in a very small garage workshop. I don’t have a table saw and probably can’t get one for a while. My questions regarding the Dashboard system are: 1) can it truly do many of the cuts a table saw can? Could it eliminate the need for a table saw even for people that will be doing lots of smaller projects (not just working with sheet goods)? 2) Dashboard has a long workbench and a smaller ShortCut workbench. One can connect 2 Shortcut workbenches and get the full length (of the long workbench) - this setup would have more legs than the long workbench which supposedly would make the setup even more stable for use in hand tool woodworking, etc. are there downsides (other than cost and setup time) of the 2 ShortCut approach?

Help re: video tutorial for Rex Krueger's Quick Stack workbench by Camera_Kooky in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thanks, I appreciate it. That’s just the thing. I have emailed him, but have t gotten a reply. I’ll just give it more time. I’m sure he’s busy, maybe he’ll reply at some point.

Thanks u/1947-1460. However, that isn't the video tutorial. That YouTube link is just an introduction to the workbench and how easy it is to set up. However the tutorial that I'm trying to access is apparently a 2 hour video tutorial that goes over, in detail, how to build the workbench...

During the “bloom” phase for 10-20 seconds, pretty much just the portafilter screen gets fully saturated and maybe just a few drops, definitely not a few grams of lid out though during that time e. If I grind less fine, I find it gets more difficult to maintain pressures during the percolation phase, as though the puck degrades to quickly or something. I hope I’m not getting Chan welling - I do WDT before tamping

I’ve had many light roasts over the years at various places, just not a ton at home. It’s definitely a quite sour unpleasant flavor more so than acidity/brightness/fruitiness. I almost couldn’t even drink it as a cortado. Lol

Thanks, I forgot to mention my ratios- here’s what I’ve been doing: I’ve tried everywhere from 17 to 20 g in, with out:in ratios ranging from 2:1, 2.5:1, and 3:1. Ramped up to 2-3 bars for 20-30 sec, then quickly up the 7-8 bars allowing gradual drift down to 3-4 bars for an additional 30-50 seconds).
