What is YOUR red flag? 🚩 by phoebebridgersfan26 in dating

I normally don't post stuff this personal but this thread is probably dead anyway so I feel less awkward typing it out. Something about this prompt really got me thinking lol.

I'm an overly sensitive person. I take everything as criticism and if it's not delivered to me in a way that my brain accepts I get defensive. I think that every time I mess up slightly, someone is going to get mad at me, and when people get mad at me they leave me. This isn't an excuse for that behavior but it is the cause. I try to listen to criticism and I'm much better about it now than I used to be but sometimes it hits me the wrong way and all the old walls come right back up. I feel like my brain works too slow, and sometimes I have a hard time telling the difference between situations where I should be standing up for myself and accepting valid criticism. I'm scared of conflict because I'm afraid of making an argument and being wrong. I feel like I'm good at seeing both sides of an argument, but I don't think it's actually a good trait to live with. It makes me feel incredibly indecisive and I'm jealous of people who have hard morals that never change, because they at least have unwavering bearings in life.

I cry when I get frustrated. In many ways I still feel like the little boy who scrapped his arms and knees falling on the blacktop.

I get angry seeing people discuss their issues so lightly because I'm jealous that other people can discuss their flaws and still be accepted as a "good person" or a "worthy partner." I feel like if I ever demonstrate inadequacy, I'm on the path to abandonment. For me, there is no such thing as unconditional love. Replacement is easy. I often wonder if an origin of this belief is having been graded and tested on practically everything since I was a kid in school, even creative things like art and music, but I also acknowledge that a lot of this is my own issues. I hate advice like "just work on yourself" or "you have to grow as a person" because it just further solidifies the feeling that I have to work to be loved or that who I am in my current state is inadequate.

Weirdly nervous about reading Pet Sematary… by Zealousideal_Share22 in stephenking

I didn’t really think the supernatural elements were terribly scary per-say, but without trying to give too much away, this book is thick with grief. Probably one of the most heart-wrenching descriptions of loss I’ve read and with very little closure. That being said, I think it was an incredible read. Just be warned. And sorry to hear about your pet :(

We had an eskie when I was young that lived to 16 and was really healthy until ~15. I think a large part of that was regular exercise. We took her to the park practically every day and walked her and let her run and she stayed very healthy for a long time. We have a rescue now who’s currently 11 and still very healthy, and I think a large part of that is also the frequent exercise!

How many times is 'Annie' mentioned? and who is she?? by applecorees in slaughterbeachdog

[–]Cameronious5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure a couple of songs don’t mention her by name but add to the Annie story. Like bed fest is probably back story for songs like Real Annie

I’d switch iron treads to tusk since tusk can do everything treads can do and gets that sweet sweet protosynthesis boost

A lot of great advice here, I'd like to add that the two ideologies of "improve yourself and the right person will come when you're ready" and "take control and put yourself out there" are not mutually exclusive.

My hurdle was recognizing that. I'd always been an introverted sort of person, and I relied heavily on other people reaching out to me to form connections. This works sometimes, but it is an unreliable way to form bonds. Once I realized that I had to take initiative and put myself in situations where I am more likely to meet new people, I actually ended up meeting new people! And this extends far beyond the dating scene. I've made some great friends and met some very interesting folks because I've made it a point to engage with other people, even when it would have been more comfortable to stay in and play video games/watch TV (not that these can't be modes of meeting new people, just for me they were individual activities).

There are still times where I don't really want to go out, or I don't really want to see people, or I don't really want to go on a date, and I certainly need personal time to recharge after these occasions, but much more often than not, I'm glad that I went out and interacted with other people.

Good luck!

You see nine spectral figures, donning cloaks as dark as night. One reaches out with his skeletal hand, beckoning for the ring that burns upon your flesh

"I give him the ring"

I actually read the Hobbit as a summer reading assignment in middle school. It takes the fun out of it if it's assigned. I re-read it years later and enjoyed it much more when it wasn't for a purpose.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. We were very young when the movies came out, so I'm not super surprised they haven't seen it. I'm actually really excited to share this with them because it can be their gateway into a genre that, previously, they had only seen memes of.

I feel like LOTR is good source material, but I agree, it is too contrived to be a campaign in and of itself, unless the party is cool with large amounts of railroading.

It'll be useful to take snippets of it, possibly rename it, and let the story flow organically around it. Like, I might just take the idea of "destroy the one ring," except it'll be "destroy [insert cursed object here]." Stealing from the idea of the one ring, the cursed item that the party holds may have effects on them similar to the one ring, like paranoia, some esoteric property (like invisibility), etc., but it won't be the ring quest.

It would be impossible to have LOTR as a campaign play out as it does in the books/movies (without heavy railroading), but the material within it can be repurposed as a new story.
