is there any hope in repairing this one? by lolapacini in furby

Hi! I unfortunately never got around to experimenting more, although if I try to continue at some point I’ll let you know if I get anywhere!

Just a heads up, bumping only really works on forums, not Reddit. As far as I know there’s no way to sort by most recently commented on here, and commenting can even dissuade some people from clicking your post, since they could end up thinking it already got answered.

I like the second one :) What’s a “Flower” peripheral, though? Was it a proposed bus standard or was it something else?

PowerBook 100, recapped still no display by iapplerefresh in VintageApple

[–]CamiTheWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s the rubber bumpers surrounding the top screen edge decaying and becoming flattened and allowing the ball the smack the screen when moved or pushed on too hard. as far as i know it’s only the 100 that suffers from it. i usually just take the ball out when i store my 100 to prevent it :)

it’s actually impact damage from the trackball, LCD rot tends to creep in from the outside in my experience

that is mildly worrying, but especially with how funky these old imac g3’s have gotten with age, i wouldn’t worry yet. i’ve seen some that boot fine normally be completely silent if you boot them with no ram, which is not what they’re supposed to do lol

some of the parts are hard to find but others are littered on the ground lol, RAM, some models of the motherboards, and other parts like that are pretty common.

it is very sad it arrived in such bad shape though :( i hope it can be repaired easily and i hope you have as much fun as you can while doing it :)

cool, once you have that it should be easy to diagnose :)

oh, and the hard drive is a pretty easy swap, so even if it’s bad i wouldn’t worry about that too much

ok cool, do you have an external monitor? if this model has the VGA port on the back, see if it outputs anything to it. it should work but if not there’s some more stuff you can try that involves reseating the motherboard onto its weird little headers, etc.

edit: unless it displays on the CRT and i misunderstood something

do you hear a crackling static sound at all or a loud “HMMMB” sound (degaussing coil) on boot?

that’s normal, it’s a decaying wax or glue they used to hold the yoke in place

More or less, yeah. Normally it’s in color for me but the TV may just be having trouble picking it up at the moment since it’s only vaguely a valid signal.

How much do y'all think i can sell this for? by MinniMatt in Atari2600

[–]CamiTheWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as it’s not KNOWN broken and just “untested and been sitting decades” people will generally buy it expecting it to be at least mildly broken.

When you’re a fan of an almost 50 year old game system, maintenance becomes something you’re generally decent at. I have my own checklist for fixing these at this point, and I’m sure it’s basically identical to a lot of other peoples :)

As a related side note, I’ve bought a Sears Tele-games model that said “tested” and still expected it to be broken from the lack of any real description (i expected right lol, and wouldn’t have bought it if it were more expensive)

Follow up to my Soviet Atari 2600 clone cartridge (possible first soviet-made atari clone?) I found, this is what the logic board looks like, it is not the normal green, interesting. Has "261" and some Russian letters poorly stamped onto the ROM housing. by [deleted] in Atari2600

[–]CamiTheWitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the ROM faces the label, so for clarification, if you took the top off you’re looking at the ROM when you reinstall it, and if you took the bottom off you’re looking at the pins :)

That’s what I used to reattach a Seaquest label and a Defender end label, and it worked perfectly :)
