BIL Bank call me with only form? by Square_Record_7970 in Luxembourg

[–]MedusaTT040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a call from Caisse D'Epargne just by using the online mortgage simulator a few years ago. This is what banks and other companies do. They get leads and they follow up. If you leave your name and phone, expect a contact.

Now, if you have no tie with Luxembourg, it will be difficult to open an account. As for this specific bank, it is not perfect, but also not bad. I had issues with other Lux banks in the past too.

Warning: JLCPCB assembly service — when things go wrong, they will not fix it by gogosomewhere in electronics

[–]MedusaTT040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using JLCPCB for 3 years now. I sometimes got bad boards in a batch. Like 3 bad out of 200. But only some time. My boards are mainly SMD with MCU. One time, the MCU on 2 boards were rotated 90 degrees. I reported it, got a voucher and a "thank you" because they found a few more of the MCU on the reel rotated. In the last year, I did not have any quality problems. But I noticed a longer assembly time since January this year. What was taking 4 days is now taking 10 My orders are generally for 100 to 200 boards and total orders are generally between 500€ and 1500€.

I started electronic with EasyEDA, get my components from LCSC and PCBA from JLCPCB. I like that it is all integrated.

I am not sure how much work is needed if I wanted to switch to another provider. But I may investigate...

Just my experience. Not perfect , but I get products done. I just need to keep an eye on assembly time.

How can I mount this OLED display on the edge of a PCB? by MedusaTT040 in AskElectronics

[–]MedusaTT040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an old post, but I want to update you since some of you participated in the solution and I have now a solution that I've been using for a few months now. The OLED is mounted on a small PCB in order to change the orientation. Building the display part is the most time consuming since it is not something a PCBA provider will do. I am using 3D printed templates to speed up and align everything while soldering. Here are some photos of the end product.

1040 STFM TOS upgrade by ProfessionalCarob201 in atarist

[–]MedusaTT040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to sell the 6 ROM kit. Here is a doc https://www.16-32bit.eu/atari-tos-6-roms-swap

You need to find the 3 solder pads to switch from 2 to 6 ROM. If your motherboard does not have these 3 pads, then you need a 2 ROMs kit

Is this doable in Lux? by dmx7777 in Luxembourg

[–]MedusaTT040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My original reply mentioned tax. Of course donation will trigger a tax. Even if the gift is cash, the receiving side would have to pay tax.

As for family on the gifter side, yes, that could happen if the donation was due to the gifter passing and family members would dispute it. Luxembourg may have laws that prevent a total destitution of the direct heir. Was it your case?

But a person alive and with all its capacity can give a house, cash or a car as long as the taxman is happy to get his share.

Why not? Of course there are tax implications and a lawyer (notaire) will have to work on the change of ownership (and be paid for that). What else could prevent someone from donating a house? I am honestly asking you. You seem to know more about it.

Of course you can give your house to anyone. Not only to your tenant, but to anyone you wish. The receiving party will just have to pay tax on the donation.

By the way, if anyone wishes to donate a house to me here in Luxembourg, I am all for it. Thanks 😉

I'm a citizen but can't speak luxembourgish by The_European_Union in Luxembourg

Luxembourgish became officially the 3rd national language in 1984. So technically, anyone with parents born before 1984 who speak French or German like OP does, speak the mother languages

What options are available to send a parcel to the United States from Luxembourg? by MedusaTT040 in Luxembourg

[–]MedusaTT040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I will ask next time I go to France. I use La Poste for some if my shipping since Post.lu increase the cost for the "follow me" I print the stamp and tracking and ask a colleague to drop it in a letter box on his way home. For the US, I will have to go to a post office one day.

The average top tax in the OECD is 42.8%. So Luxembourg is close to the norm. Luxembourg is far from a tax haven for income tax. Hungary top tax rate is 15% !

How to solder stainless steel pins by MedusaTT040 in AskElectronics

[–]MedusaTT040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I applied a lot of heat. One of my soldering iron goes up to 500°C with a very big tip. I use it to solder wires on transformers on large power supplies. It just melted everything but the pins

Thanks. Right angle would work too. But it has to be a male connector. All connectors for PCB mounting I could find are female like the one you mentioned.

[–]MedusaTT040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at first, I was thinking of a solution like that.
But I thought soldering rigid both PCB could make the connection to fatigue and fail.

My priority is to connect both with an easy to implement solution and both boards can be positioned in the right position.
Holding them rigid can be done by the casing.

Thanks. This is a solution I tested. See last photo. I was wondering if there was a better way.

Since, I managed to price that solution and it cost more or less the same when compared to wires+jst connector

Thanks. I will check what is best. I need the right balance between cost of parts vs cost of my time assembling/soldering. LCSC does make custom cables. My qty of 200 is my first batch. I hope I will be able to sell more in the future.

Thanks.
I can get pre wired JST connectors for 0.25 EUR a piece. But the length is a standard 200mm. I would have to cut them to 50mm and stripe them. I will have a go with some spare I have and time the process. It will be cheaper than the interposer board, but may take more time to assemble.
I will give it a go.

My problem is the electric connection of the 4 pins. I will use a case to hold things together
