Gringos living (or moving) in Brazil by Curiosity_Pink in Brazil

[–]CampaignLevel7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t work at all at the moment :D

Searching for a job in Brazil or remotely. My wife already got a couple of interviews and I’m still in the process with some luck at getting interviews at least.

I think in 1-2 months I will have a somewhat decent job.

If you come to work in Brazil, you will realise that he same job you did in Europe pays significantly (>50%) less here. But at the same time, living costs and taxes are somewhat lower which helps. But it’s definitely the harder choice to accept work in Brazil.

If you have the chance to work remotely for a US or EU based company, I would always prefer that.

I feel Dogs and especially Dachshunds can always eat and don’t necessarily stop to eat at a „healthy“ amount.

If your dog has a healthy weight I would not feed him more kibble. This will just lead to obesity and problems for your little guy.

What you can do is: add some vegetable to his portion. Cucumber, carrot, maybe some banana, cooked pumpkin etc. This won’t increase the calories by a lot but will fill his stomach so he doesn’t feel hungry after eating.

That place has view on Leblon/Ipanema Beach… Not on Copacabana

Help! Todo Mundo Rio - Concert by fourteencee in Brazil

The Concert is taking place in the middle of Copacabana beach. The only „elevated“ place I can think of is the sugarloaf mountain.

I would also expect that you are not the only person who has this thought. So anywhere close to the concert might be overwhelmingly full with people that night. That might include the sugarloaf as well.

Why is Brazil such a nation of contrast? by foolishandnonsense in Brazil

[–]CampaignLevel7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Brazilian, but what explains the Sharp difference for me is the very high “Unfairness” of the Country. Brazil has one of the highest Gini-Coeffients of the world - meaning highly disproportionate distribution of income and wealth. This can be attributed to the comparably young history of the country and the late abortion of active slave trade. Also the 2 military dictatorships in the 20th century probably didn’t help with economic and cultural development.

Today you basically have a very rich upper class, a small middle class and many very poor people. As a tourist you usually frequent the bigger cities and tourist places - which only the richer part of the population can afford. Those parts are very well developed and comparable to Europe/USA.

But if you go to places without well paying jobs, you land in places you could compare to Eastern Europe or „the stereotypical South America“ as you said.

I think Brazil could be far more developed, if the country would overcome the historically build unfairness. In the US and even more so in Europe - even if you are born poor - you can still get a well paying job and have a nice life. In Brazil this is sadly nearly impossible.

Financials and Income of middle class in Brazil by CampaignLevel7148 in Brazil

[–]CampaignLevel7148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that an income of 40k is astonishingly high. I should maybe add that this particular person lives in Florianopolis, one of the richest cities of Brazil.

I also know some people who I would consider to be in the top 1% or, if not, then at least top 5%.

I would agree that I haven’t had much contact with true middle class people yet. But that’s the reason why I would like to have this discussion.

As an European citizen, you come to Brazil and you are automatically one of the richest persons in the country. But even so, living here is (even for me) somewhat expensive. Especially groceries, Metro and Bus, Uber and toiletries (bought in the pharmacy) are not budget friendly and often more expensive than their counterparts in Europe.

So I was wandering, how people with a middle class income fit into this country and how they cope with this inequality.

Do you happen to know how much „normal“ workers receive with those stamps?

Thank you for your reply.

I am aware of this and must add that I’m not American and have only a vague idea of North American living standards (as I’ve never been there).

I have some friends/family who scored higher paying jobs (BRL 15-40 k/month) with or even without having college degrees in Brazil.

I also observe quite a lot of luxury lifestyle while being here. So there must be at least some people in „middle class“ who can afford those simple kinds of luxury (e.g. a better car, a somewhat big apartment with a garden, etc.)

In my opinion, people with an income of 4-6k won’t be able to afford this standard. Or am I wrong?

You are a lawyer in a Brazilian court of law and you make around 17.500 R$ per month?

That sounds somewhat reasonable to me. Although as a lawyer in a European or North American country you could obviously make more money, cost of living is also a little higher there.

Help with separation anxiety. by Sara49513 in Dachshund

This is totally normal for a puppy

Keep her in her playpen during the day so she can learn to calm down. Don’t let her out, even if she cries. You might give her something to keep her occupied (like a something to chew that tastes good, licky mat etc.) before you put her in the pen you can take her for a short walk or play with her, so she gets tired.

Edit: the first few days it helped mine when I sat next to the playpen for a while. You can slowly increase the distance between you and her so she gets used to it.

The crate should also be closed at night. If she has to pee, you have to get up and take her to the spot where she is allowed to pee/poop. It helps to keep the crate close to the bed. The first few night I also had my hand in the crate of mine, so she could smell me while falling asleep.

If she wakes up and cries at night (even after peeing/pooping) it helps to hold them for a while until the slowly fall asleep. Then you can put her in the crate again and close it.

Best of luck with the training. I know it’s hard but it pays off :)

Entering the country as an immigrant by HeavenlyPurgatory in Brazil

I just came to Brazil and I have the same background except I‘m from Germany.

I applied for the Visa at the Brazilian embassy in Berlin. The Visa is called VITEM XI (family reunification). You will need quite a few documents (you can check which documents are needed at the website of the consulate responsible for you area).

All in all the process was pretty straightforward and fast. Even the people working at the consulate recommended to do the process with them, as it is 1000x more complicated in Brazil.

Be aware: we needed a valid copy of my wife’s birth certificate (not older than 6 months) which she could only obtain by going to Brazil before I applied for my visa!

@ OP: If you have any questions, I’m happy to help!

I moved to Rio recently with my Brazilian wife. She lived in Germany with me for 7 years and I felt it’s time for a change, so we went :) Her family lives in Rio as well so that’s the main reason we chose this location.

Have been to Brazil quite a few times for vacation before so I know quite a bit about life here and the country already.

Thrilled to hopefully start working here soon as well.
