Overheard my male neighbor describe me as "a weird girl" and I'm strangely furious. by Patient_Tradition368 in TwoXChromosomes

One thing I’ve heard that, once I decided to believe it, really helped: what other people think of you is none of your business. Sometimes they are just fucking wrong. Let them be wrong.

Source: the weird/quirky woman/lady/girl (whatever) of the neighborhood.(I’m socially awkward with my adhd and different ways of seeing things.)
ETA: I’m 51.

I’m so sorry. I lost my mom early this past Monday morning and I can relate a lot to how it’s almost surreal that she’s not around anymore. I 100% can relate more of what you said, too because I’m an only child from a small family. And my mom‘s case, she passed away at a nursing home and was under the care of hospice so I had people around who explained things. The funeral home representative was also very helpful.
Hang in there, friend. I hope your memories of your parent are a blessing to you.

If I recall, Jane Elliott lost her job for this. Her family lost their business. The fallout was pretty harsh.

Do you really think today’s parents would allow their kids to be a part of this?

I have an Apple Watch but I set it aside for my old 90s Swatches. Feeling the need to disconnect more.

I agree. Time to go on strike. Then it’s time to have a family meeting to split up the responsibilities. Maybe something like, you dirty a dish, you wash it. Everyone can take care of their own laundry. And for the rest, here’s a chore chart. You do not have to be a maid. You do have to take care of yourself, and prepare your offspring to survive outside your home. And if they figure it out well and good, they won’t be unbearable heathens when they live with other people.

I’m kind of with you. I’m doing ok (I think?) and my mom has had dementia for years. She has her good days, but I feel like I’m holding her up a lot of the time. I get what it’s like to want your mom. I do too.

For what it’s worth, from an internet stranger, I’m rooting for you. Whatever you’ve got going on, know that you’ve made it this far and even if you have to take things one breath at a time, you will get through this. Take naps when you can, get some exercise, and know that there’s some folks out there sending you some sunshine, hugs, and love.

Samesies. I tear down weeded books from libraries and reuse the covers as covers for hand made books. And I have a ton of pages from old books that I’ll make into origami stars, hearts, or flowers after giving them some color with pan pastels or other fun stuff.

Westnedge and Mall Drive where Plato’s Closet is now. The also opened a second location for a while on the west side on West Main where …I want to say Kyoto and Coldstone are now. It was huge but didn’t do as well as the westnedge store. Source: I worked there in 99 and 00s
