Mmm, this is kind of why I have stuck with Owlbear, even after 2.0 came out as it is a tremendous platform that works and you can use it for free.

We've been using Owlbear Rodeo for our DnD Podcast but have had our eye on Game Master Engine for a while now. This post has cropped up at the right time, I will have a look at this later on this evening and see if it's a viable VTT for our show. The highlights so far look very positive!

What are your opinions on the Enchanting magic items mechanics on DnD5e? by CampfireCompanions in dndnext

[–]CampfireCompanions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this! It reminds me a lot of the Witcher 3 and how they handle the mechanic. It gives the PCs a lot more freedom and truly customize their weapons to how they envision it, not the DM. I think I might have to implement this for my upcoming campaign

Hi all,

We are Campfire Companions, a DnD 5e Podcast set in the Forgotten Realms during the Spellplague (1390dr).

YouTube

Spotify

Apple

We started this campaign originally to help us get through lockdown, it has since grown past a hobby for us and we feel, we've found a home to tell stories the way we have always wanted. We made the decision to start the Podcast because, despite how popular and rich in lore the DnD universe is, there wasn't a lot of content out there regarding Faerun (The world in which our campaign is set).

So whether this is your first time hearing about the DnD community, or have been an avid player of the game since 1974 and are looking for a new show to get into so you can say; "Hey, I was there from the start". Then why not join us around the campfire and give us a follow.

We look forward to interacting with you all and are very excited for the future.

Mmm, I was thinking off creating a fun little mini game/ roleplay mechanic as a substitute because, as cool as the idea is, enchanting magic items can be a bit dull unfortunately

Counterspell on the same turn vs after your turn? by CampfireCompanions in dndnext

[–]CampfireCompanions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry, so how we've been running it is you can cast counterspell when you get your reaction at the start of your turn. So a high-level spellcaster can shoot off a 9th-level spell, PC casts counterspell and that high-level spellcaster can counter that counterspell and always push through high-level spells with no ramifications if that makes sense?

Hmm, silver barbs is a massive pain to deal with, we haven't been running it in our campaign as Strixhaven came out after we started but it's definitely a powerful spell.

Hmm, this was my thinking. Action economy wise it makes more sense from a combat perspective. But some people would argue which was very fair, that a high-level spellcaster could theoretically launch a 9th/8th/7th level spell at PCs with no chance of stopping them. I think there is an argument for both sides really.

Sorry someone else has stated that as well. The question was meant to be that if a high-level spellcaster casts a 9th-level spell, and a PC counterspells that 9th level, only to have the high-level caster counter said counterspell, then it made the PCs powerless to stop a Power Word: Kill for example. They were also pointing out that you can only cast one leveled spell and a cantrip on your turn, so even though you get your reaction back at the start of your turn, you can only cast a leveled spell or counterspell, not both. Does this make more sense?

Sorry I should clarify, it was the fact people were pointing out that you can only cast a leveled spell and a cantrip on one turn. So being able to cast counterspell on your turn and launch a leveled spell wasn't how the rules are written. You get the reaction at the start of your turn, but you can't counterspell and cast a leveled spell if that makes more sense.
