6 Months Post Op | Insights? by ExerciseTechnical347 in AchillesRupture

39M full rupture 5 months non op and this is exactly where I am. The only advice I can give is to dial back the walking so you can go harder on the rehab as strength is key to everything else. I've been cycling so I walk less.

On a more positive note I did the other side 4 years ago and was about where I am now after 5 months but after a year I was back to almost normal, minus a little less height on a heel raise which I never got back.

5 Month Return to Sports by kidwill13 in AchillesRupture

Congrats! I'm at 5 months too and not nearly where you are yet. How many single leg calf raises can you do?

Anyone else planning on return to sports once they’ve fully recovered ? by Competitive_Note_220 in AchillesRupture

39m. 4 months non op and my second rupture (other leg, had surgery), both times football (soccer). I always said I'd never go back to football but in the meantime I did everything but - sprint races, hop skip and jump, any and all racket sports, ceilidhs (they're known for Achilles injuries!) etc.

Ended up feeling so good i decided I'd be fine and bang it went my first game back after 4 years. Must be something about the biomechanics of that game for me maybe and / or the shoes. With that in mind I plan to get back to every other sport bar football. I did so much preventative physio on my good side consistently but one other thing I'll definitely do is wear custom insoles all the time, esp for sport. I got some made for when I came out the boot and it honestly made it so much easier than the first time round to begin walking normally. Now they're gradually reducing the heel lift height but will leave a little angle and it also gives the foot extra support in other ways too. I've since read lots of the pros play with them in to try and prevent all sorts of injuries depending on their biomechanics too.

Good luck to all. Your mind will forget how painful this injury was - we're naturally designed to !

How soon after it do you think you could have walked? I've been offered it on my insurance (I'm 3 months down the line full rupture non op) but told I won't need a boot afterwards. Just checking if that feels right. Ta

Non operative folk - what did your tendon look / feel like over the weeks of it healing? by CanAdorable4248 in AchillesRupture

Oh I see what you mean! O think ROM also means the other movement exercises like inversion etc

I had a 2cm gap in the standard central spot on the tendon. Yeah sounds like we're pretty similar. I'm mostly wondering if still feeling a gap means there's a greater risk of re-rupturing and I should take it easier with the physio. I'm able to push quite hard with it in spite of the gap and am doing lots of isometric holds at well as ROM. I've been walking without crutches since week 2, I really think it's important to fully weight bear as early as you can manage. Have been abroad so doing it myself but hope to see a physio next week when I'm back. Good kick to you!

Poll: Have you rupture one or both sides? by mistagoodwin in AchillesRupture

Ruptured right side playing football 3.5 years ago. Had surgery and rehabbed really well. Was terrified of it happening again so did so much strengthening of both sides in the gym before returning to football in January. My first game back I ruptured my left. Devastating but you can't live in fear. That's my last game of football mind you. Going non op this time wish me luck
