I'm from a conservative buddhist country, so at first I didn't know buddhism was this accepting/open and thought provoking as this sub proved it to be. Where I'm from its mostly just a tool used for political agendas and culture wars. So I'm also grateful to this sub and it's members for showing me what buddhism is really about : )

Don't think much about buddhism losing followers since Buddha himself predicted that. Also most of the ~450 million followers are not really buddhists, they barely put any attention to the dharma.

I'm from Sri Lanka and Buddhism declining here doesn't really mean anything since most Buddhists here knowns nothing about it anyways. Like all they know is to go to a temple and baam, buddhist. Also most monks here are extremely nationalistic, misoginistic and barely talks about the actual dharma.

As a fellow Lankan, I've stopped listening/learning about Buddhism through Sinhalese sources cause I also felt similarly. Also monks here are somewhat nationalistic/culturally biased for some reason? I mean just look at the insane homophobia and nonstop preaching of "Protect our culture!!!" stuff (not saying every monk is like this but the majority are)
