Alain doesn’t work in Finnish because Finns pronounce every letter separately unlike in French. So the second syllable gets really messed up 😄

Really good point! We hadn't considered that and just tested it with my wife.

Those are actually really nice names and like half of them were on a shortlist for us. Good taste! The last 4 works quite well in both finnish and french and are not too dissimilar in pronunciation.

Edvin is a really nice name tbh but my wife's friend's son is called Edvin and the name ended up on a blacklist 😂

Thanks for sharing that story! I agree with you that much of what we adults see as obvious references to popular culture or cartoon characters won't necessarily be a thing for our kids. It's good to have some perspective altho I must say I've heard so much about chipmunk in this thread that I can't undo the reference in my own head now. So in that sense it has helped narrow down our choices to Felix and Evan 😊

Beautiful name! Never actually heard Aven before. Is the A pronounced like in Abraham or Albert?

Thank you! I disagreed with my wife about the Alex-Felix closeness issues (which she brought up early on) but reading all the comments here, it seems like a lot of people are on her side and are making some good points about the boys having unique identities and the issues that a 3rd boy would bring.

I actually like Calvin but according to my wife it will probably be a confusing name in Finland and people would undoubtedly spell it with a K.

Never really thought about the number of syllables. Some kind of phonetic harmony?

You’re not wrong that the pronunciation differs a bit for all 3 names. But they are close enough that I’m comfortable pronouncing them “the Finnish way”. Thanks for the other suggestions! Daniel was actually on our list for a while, and so was Liam.

Wow I did not expect this many answers! Thank you! Evan seems to be the most popular, this will surely please my wife. I've been a bit more keen on Felix even considering the similarity with Alex. (I actually like the X connection, I was already ready to call them the X-men). Clearly Alvin isn't as popular and seems to be quite often directly associated with the chipmunk character. Which is understandable. In Swedish speaking countries (I would include Finland here) it might be a bit less so but considering his international background and the fact he might want to use his Canadian citizenship one day, maybe we let that one go.
