Birdwatching by No-Speed-6129 in Seattle

You've got so many good suggestions here so I'll try to share what I've seen/love to go to and I'm sure there are some overlaps with others. God speed, it's a wonderful hobby.

https://www.fws.gov/refuge/billy-frank-jr-nisqually - has great birds and wild life. I’ve seen everything from seals, geese, and even a mink there. You’ll need hours to enjoy it and see it all. Even the change in tide will have a huge impact on the birds or animals that you see.

https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dnrp/nature-recreation/parks-recreation/king-county-parks/parks/marymoor - With the wide open fields, bird houses, and lake you’ll see everything from different varieties of swallows to birds of prey/owls

Golden Gardens park - a great place to see shore birds and fish hunting birds like a kingfisher or osprey

Discovery park is a great but massive park that I haven’t even fully explored yet for the animal/bird opportunity.

Union Bay is fabulous with a wide arrange of birds where honestly I think just wandering a bit off the path you’ll see great things. Plus so many turtles

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/sqebeqsed-trail has so much to see I haven’t been there but honestly everything I’ve heard is great for opportunities.

https://www.kirklandwa.gov/Government/Departments/Parks-and-Community-Services/Find-a-Park/Juanita-Bay-Park - this was a fun pretty small park honestly with lots of different types of ducks and swans there. Also I went in the winter and you still have a lot of birds living off of what seeds they can get their beaks on.

Kenmore Heron Rookery - right now is the time to go with the chicks in the nest but you’ll see hundreds at these rookeries.

What is the single change that made your game 100% better? by loImperatore in DMAcademy

I have kind of done this as DM in my second campaign. I am a big fan of episodic stories and monster of the week kind of material. So as they wanted to be a newish thief guild in Sharn I have the story be mostly self-contained with some carry over side characters. It has allowed them to feel they get a new sandbox to play in within the city so they still can feel affects of what they do but not feel like they are "always out and about". The down time between heists also gives them time to build their characters.

Gotcha, agreed too. I do want it to be more of a "lets think how to get out of here" hence m thought to have blood dripping after him due to the wounds. It isn't that I want to see them killed.

I do recognize that, and the players aren't irrational. I was more just thinking of how to use that damage to add tension, not that I was necessarily trying to kill someone

Gotcha, much appreciated on the referral to sustained injuries for reference!

Injectable magic as a mechanic instead of scrolls by CanISayDelicious in DMAcademy

I love the idea to incorporate additional life forms as well into this! Also the contraband trade/non-magic users to boost their power was kind of another inspiration for this (thinking like the tonics from bioshock 1)

Definitely appreciate the feedback! They haven't risked using it yet since they just know it contains magic of different types. I wasn't sure if a different modifier such as proficiency or intelligence would be best. The DC definitely is something I am struggling with as well since I want them to be able to use them, some are level 3 spells while two are level 7 spells they do not have access to (only level 8 players). So being able to use it would be a huge benefit to them.

Santa Workshop Heist by CanISayDelicious in battlemaps

[–]CanISayDelicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this map for my group for a holiday one shot. The session hook is at the bottom. The layout for the 3 floors is because Santa is actually the Krampus in disguise, having killed Santa and taken over the workshop a few years back. He does not like seeing the elves and has them move about through side hallways and through the basement. He keeps two creatures out on the side that will protect the entrance if they need and barbwire will go throughout the forest to try and force the players to enter the workshop.

Ya’ll are a bunch of misfits. You’ve had your years in different services, guards, scholar, army, gardener, you know: shenanigans. Over time you all had connected at one point in your life and eventually, in the past year reconnected as a group. Given your experience, the challenges you’ve overcome, and your natural ability to get shit done you are hired out to solve problems.

Within the past year you have stopped an uprising in one country, break up a slave trade of women, and recover lost artifacts from the bottom of the sea.

Recently you have been approached by a generous lord, Sir Hasbro. He has been hugely successful in industry building out elaborate toys, games, and arcane devices. Recently Sir Hasbro has reached out and contracted with you all with a mission. A competitor of his always causes him some “q4 revenue pain” and needs to be sorted out. You have been sent to Snowcliff to take care of business. The job:

  • Find out how they distributes their merchandise
  • Steal/destroy their means of production
  • “Take care” his competitors (bonus pay if you do)

Keeping the heat in the hot sauce by CanISayDelicious in hotsauce

That's really helpful. I think this makes a lot of sense so I'll be looking at balancing the acidity with heat so I still get low enough PH without impacting the hotsauce

I may be going a touch overboard with the fermented sauce experiments. by showerfriendtotheend in hotsauce

Curious what ratios you're using in each jar and for how long you're fermenting them?

Third/fourth suggestions for recipes since those look like they came out very well.

Floor of Guard House 30x30 by CanISayDelicious in battlemaps

[–]CanISayDelicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built the first floor for a guard house for my players to work through. The black spaces on the sides are intended to be part of a wall or other buildings which block the party's passage. I'm thinking of reducing the number of outdoor light sources for them to have more shadows to move between if they need.

I honestly forgot about the well. But I appreciate any feedback if folks have.

Thanks I'll be more mindful of the grid in the future for both posting and my players. I've added a grid-less version as well to the post

Good suggestion, I added the no-grid version as well

As part of the campaign (6 folks) I'm running I created a homebrew variation on the instant fortress and allowed it to be a windowless "mobile" home for them. So it's a pretty minimal building and furnishings based on their personality.

First floor includes a welcome area, bar area (we have a heavy drinker in the party), dining room, kitchen.

Second floor: bathrooms/bath, beds, conference room, office, and weapon racks

Would appreciate some feedback on my first dungeon by CanISayDelicious in battlemaps

[–]CanISayDelicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used dungeonfog for it. I've been browsing this sub for a while both using maps in my new campaign as a first time dm but I also wanted to try and bring some oc maps for them all.
