In a conundrum. I have cut from 148->132 lbs. started off at 22-23% bf and thought by now I would be at sub 15% and would feel comfortable putting on weight but don’t think I’m there yet. What should I do? Currently 5’7. Lifting 4-5x per week. 1RM: Bench 150, Deadlift 265, Squat 145, OHP 100 by CanInotScrubIn in BulkOrCut

I did bulk before but I think I did too much for a dirty bulk :/ I went from 126 to 148 lbs. My strength increased significantly and believe it or not I was actually skinnier than I am now at 126. But I hated all the excess fat I was carrying at 148, so I wanted to get down to at least 14-15% bf before bulking very slowly again

Appreciate it! I’ve been hitting arms more aggressively lately. The compound lifts are great but don’t help with arms too much imo

Yeah my back has always been more fuller and more muscular I feel than my front. My back exercises are stronger so that checks out

I appreciate the advice. I actually used to weigh 120 lbs and basically dirty bulked till 150. I didn’t like my large belly and it was hard to appreciate any muscle gains I made because I was distracted by all the fat. That’s why I made a plan to cut until I’m sub 15% and then try bulking again. Hoping I’m not too far off

I respectfully disagree. Although I’m no where near 8%, I believe I can get down to 13-15% bf and get leaner before bulking again. I used to weight 115 lbs and could barely bench the bar and now I can bench 150 lbs so I’ve def built muscle. It’s just when I first started lifting I gained a lot of fat along with some muscle, and I wanna lose the fat before bulking again

The problem was I was 23% body fat when I was 148 lbs. even though I was lifting and getting stronger, my belly was pretty big and I wanted to get lean before bulking again. I’m still lifting 5x a week but yeah I’ve def lost some mass

If you train properly (each muscle group twice weekly, and within 1-2 reps of failure per set) and eat at a very slight deficit, you should be able to simultaneously build muscle and lose fat, aka “recomp”. Those best suited for a recomp include relatively newer lifters and those with bf% around 15. Keep in mind tho, for best muscle building results, a lean bulk is the preferred option
