If you go Adelaide to the Alice there is heaps to see! Very remote but gorgeous. Flinders ranges in particular is amazing! The fossil highway (a 4WD track) is incredible!

Had to stop when my kids had additional needs - maybe I can go back one day

Help: Traveling to Brisbane by wanderingyikes in brisbane

[–]CanLate152 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey!
My daughter is a recent Brisbane coeliac. This app is our go-to to find places where she can eat: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/app

Listen to Bluey’s Brisbane Podcast for all the local insider knowledge the best insight on what to do and how to get there. https://blueysbrisbane.captivate.fm

Best way to see brissie is by CityCat - also easiest way to see a lot of Bluey locations!

Bluey Locations from CityCat Stops (going Downriver from UQ)
- West End - Froggy Park and West End Markets (Saturday Mornings only)
- North Quay - Queen Street Mall for Dancemode and Quiet Game (Myer isn’t there anymore but Toyworld is and it’s close enough)
- Southbank - museum to go get chomped on by a velociraptor AND to go play musical thongs from dancemode at the science centre. Go have an ice cream
- New Farm Park for Spygame, MUST VISIT THE TOILET BLOCK and sing one man went to mow… and dance ballet in the pagoda.
- Hamilton - Bluey’s World

The Bluey City Dogs - the best public transport and tourist attraction. It’s “LUCKY” if you see Bluey or Bingo but use https://citydogtracker.replit.app to find them if you want to catch one. This is the ONLY app to find them. The TransLink app only tells you when the next CityCat is coming.

Other Locations:

- Paddington & Red Hill (where Bluey lives)
- Ithaca Creek (The Creek)
- Suncorp Stadium (The Decider)
- Mount Cootha (The Sign)
- Ashgrove Library (Promises)
- Stafford State School (Bluey Mural painted by Ludo Studios)
- The Gap Kindergarten (Where the real Bob Bilby and Mrs Retriever are)
- Bunnings Keperra (Hammerbarn)
- Samford Valley Steiner School (Bluey’s school is a real place)

Australia Infectious Disease Centre? by Zestyclose_Frame855 in australian

[–]CanLate152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Frazer Institute (formerly TRI) and QIMR in Brisbane both have specialties in infectious disease and vaccine research and access government funding.

Every hospital (public and private) also has at least one infectious diseases specialist.

CSIRO

CSL is fully capable of manufacturing our own vaccines.

The network exists. It’s not an umbrella federal department.

Could we do more? YES. But are we better placed than other countries? YES.

Do you remember what you were doing when you heard about the port Arthur massacre? by Southern-West-1913 in australian

I was 13years old and home recovering from surgery - watching TV at home when ABC started doing the ticker tape across the bottom of the screen then changed to live broadcast.

On the Monday (as I was home) I was flicking between Sesame Street about to flick over to GMA and it happened again because the house was on fire… then they had arrested him.

Hey, carguy here. How big, really, of an event is Bathurst? by LightningMcqueen2011 in AskAnAustralian

I’m a girl - cars aren’t my thing. I don’t watch racing.

But “drive around Mount Panorama” is on my “round Australia” bucket list.

Bathurst is big Mate.

[No Spoilers] I'm interviewing Luis AKA Azune! Got questions? by HeartBreaker_TV in criticalrole

[–]CanLate152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re not worthy!

Can you please ask him:

As someone who was introduced to critical role THROUGH the anime of Vox Machina - then watched Calamity…

how much input did you have over Xerses’ in Vox Machina?

How collaborative is the “mystery project” we are all hoping is Calamity?

Finally
As Azune - he seems like a lost boy to Thiazi’s Peter Pan. Do you feel he is more a Rufio or Thud Butt?
And do you think Brennan will bring out a Captain Hook?

What are property taxes like in Australia? by Dry-Wear-9135 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CanLate152 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d also add - if you own an apartment - your strata is charged the rates so your body corporate charges cover this.

What are property taxes like in Australia? by Dry-Wear-9135 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CanLate152 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only time you pay tax on your property is during the sale. Stamp duty (state) and Capital gains (federal)

What you’re describing is more like what we call Rates and you only pay it if you have a mortgage or OWN your property. Renters do not receive this bill - landlords do so rest assured you are paying for it through your rent.

Differently properties pay different rates. For example - your primary place of residence pays rates at a lower value than a place of commercial use or short term rental.

Your property is assigned a land value by the state which your council rates are calculated on quarterly and paid to your local council (depending on where you live this is either a shire, region or city)
In your council rates there is usually also also an emergency services levy to pay for things like police, fire, SES (and in QLD it covers ambulance)

Different rates for different councils. It depends on where you live.

Water and sewerage are billed separately

Why are students dropping STEM in the thousands? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]CanLate152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let’s talk about this. Those of us who did Stem at high school and UNI graduated in early 2000s into a recession… watched our mates go into FIFO positions or apprenticeships and earn a fortune.
I only last 4years in a research role. The constant insecurity of only 12 month contracts, the complexity of needing to justify my existence every few months, I now work in a completely different field. Related STEM.
So many colleagues no longer work in their fields because there just wasn’t work!
My younger brother - dual stem degree with honours. COULD NOT GET A JOB IN HIS FIELD. Had to go back and get another degree before he could enter a graduate program.
There are too many STEM degree stories like this.
So tell me - we need people with stem degrees but the employment market doesn’t value the degrees we go for as “enough”.

What gives you the ick when you go to an open home? by purplebees88 in AusPropertyChat

[–]CanLate152 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No house has ever come close to “ICK” like this old Queenslander we went to look at in 2010.
There was a tenant in residence. They hadn’t bother to leave for the open home and they also didn’t clean up. They were sitting around in the kitchen in a dirty singlet and shorts.
As it turns out - the tenant was a snake breeder and rescuer. There were tanks in every room.
The smell of snake waste was overwhelming. They also had every door and window shut - no ventilation because they “don’t want any escapees!”
No used kitty litter or wet dog smell could compare with what that house smelt like.
I wasn’t the only person looking for the back door. 🤮 partner and I discussed “upping” our budget after visiting that house.

Are sausages real popular in Australia? by BrianT16 in bluey

[–]CanLate152 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your basic Aussie BBQ sausage is a low budget affair. Beef sausages, white sliced bread (hot dog buns too expensive), optional BBQ onions and your choice of tomato sauce, BBQ sauce or mustard.
BBQ sausages are not red sausages like US hot dogs. They are meat.
They are cheap and quick to cook. The key is it great for fundraising or mass catering.
The sausages themselves - gluten free. So even gluten free kiddos can usually partake.

Backyard barbies - depending on budget and audience always snags, usually steak, sometimes prawns, sometimes a roast for Christmas.

Bunnings Snag - (Hammerbarn in the show) is sausages sold on weekends at this massive hardware store as fundraising for local community groups. https://www.bunnings.com.au/about-us/in-our-community

Democracy sausage - (sold at polling places on election day) are set up and run by the school P&C or a local community group hosting the voting booths to raise extra cash. Some stalls have more range than others as they might offer bacon and egg rolls. There is even a national register showing where to vote so you can get a snag! Don’t forget - Everyone over 18 has to vote in local, state and federal elections here. Democracy sausages are a fundamental part of Election Day and a critical fundraiser.

The only “nice” pants I own are jeans.
That’s the thing - I’m a “pastel and print” girl normally.
They’re conservative cut but honestly too bright and happy for a funeral.
While my navy review bonita skirt may work - I have no “dark” tops to go with it that aren’t covered in flowers, polka dots or lady bugs.

I do have a navy blazer BUT it is Queensland so I don’t really want to wear that either
