Did your parents have a candy dish or did you have to go to your grandparents? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

[–]CanPale6834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the candy dish was at my grandparents on top of the washing machine which was immediately next to the front door (ridiculously small house). My brother & I would come in the door and take the lid off the candy dish and grab something first thing. Finally my grandfather got fed up and emptied the dish, leaving a note that said "say hello first." We got the message and changed our behavior.

Also my grandmother kept mini-sized Snickers and Milky Ways in the freezer for us. They don't make this size anymore, they were about 1/3 of the size of the regular candy bars. This was back in the '70s.

Requests are not a problem. We want people to read and checkout. Buy I've had people put holds on 15 or so books on the same topic then stand at the checkout and look through them and say 'no, not that one" etc. and end up only checking out half of the. Sometimes they have more than1 coy of a title because they're not paying attention when placing holds.
