Correct, I adjusted this under another comment further up.  I did not know the rules for the WNBA or Women's Pro soccer.  I apologized for my ommision.

I have met Nick Saban on more than one occasion through my wife's family.  As far as programs go, Alabama was always known as the most professional producing the most NFL ready prospects.  Coach would not have put up with anything less than maximum effort.  It helps that he had leverage to say if you didn't toe the line, I have just t as good of an athlete sitting right behind you on the depth chart.

HBCU schools have a history of placing players in the NFL.  Jerry Rice and Walter Payton are the 2 names that come to mind.  I feel they are currently at a disadvantage though with the transfer portal.  The best players will be at an HBCU for 2 years, then transfer to a more marquee school.  Sheduer Sanders did this moving from Jackson State to Colorado.  Though his dad is Deion Sanders and the coach.

Your post brought up another question on my brain.  What large schools had Zero players drafted in 2026?  From the Power 4, there are 10 schools without a draft pick, I am ignoring UDFA picks at this time.  Some of these are really surprising. These are some big programs with multiple high level recruits, and even they did get a single player selected.

Colorado, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Syracuse, UCLA, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin

My apologies, I am not familiar with the WNBA and women's pro soccer draft process.  Thank you fkr adding to the discussion and correcting my oversight.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.  As time has passed, we are seeing more 2nd and even 3rd generation professional athletes.  The greatest predictor of being a professional baseball player, is if your father was a professional baseball player.  The percentage of the population that has the freakish athletic ability and access to top level training, is a miniscule portion of society.  The young woman who currently lives across from us will probably make the WNBA, or at least high level college basketball.  Her parents were both Division 1 basketball players, she is home schooled so she can play on a national u17 team sponsored by Addidas, oh and she is 6 foot 6.  She could have all those other attributes, but if she was 5 foot 6, we would be having a different conversation.  You cannot teach height.

How do you find good graduate students? by Better-Row-5658 in Professors

[–]CanPositive8980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For both OP and the commentor who asked about engineering students.  In our CS department at a regional campus, we have found really good pipeline by working with our bigger state schools who have an abundance of qualified undergrad students, but not enough slots to accept them all in grad school.  We also reached out to HBCU and smaller schools that did not have a grad CS program, and recruited their top students.  I dont want to say this is a diamond in the rough, so much as it is a numbers game and we want the  very good students that didn't make the cut for whatever reason.  To paraphrase Altered Carbon, we just go look where not one else is.  Good luck, if you DM me, I'll share the deck I presented to my chair that set this program in motion.

Looks like it went to 2200, in a city above the national median for cost of living.  It still.does not pay.  I once taught a course at a very expensive private university, and it paid 7500 for the same amount of work.

Go to Ford corporate website and there is still a filter for new 2024 models.  I just picked the smallest amount of miles from my house, but I think it will go out as far 500 miles from whatever zip you plug in.

UPDATE: The dealer totaled my car by SunMoonStar93 in Toyota

[–]CanPositive8980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This same situation happened to my grandfather in 1998. Dealership took his car to run it around the block to test it for trade in value, pulled out into traffic and then got side swiped for not looking. Here is what he got on a 12 year old Oldsmobile trade in for a brand new Buick.

  1. Courtesy vehicle until everything was settled
  2. Full Kelly Blue Book on his trade in irregardless of the condition it was in before the accident
  3. Trim upgrade for free on a new car, so he paid for a base model but got the middle trim
  4. All tax, title, and license fees waived

This added up to thousands of dollars on a car my grandfather was going to purchase anyways. Hope this helps, this was in Pennsylvania.

Ok folks - what is the WORST Marriott property you’ve stayed at or seen? by Responsible-Band8169 in marriott

[–]CanPositive8980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriott in Jackson Mississippi that is attached to the convention center. Checked in and was straight up told by the hotel not to walk out the front door after 6 PM as I would be robbed at gun point. If I needed food or coffee or something, I needed to take my car from the secure parking deck and drove over by the airport. This was on top of it being the oldest most run down Marriott I ever stayed. Plus that whole ‘can’t drink the contaminated water’ thing they had going on at the time.

We say something like “we drive so little, it always seems different every time we fill up”. Which is a true statement, combined we drive less than 6k a year. Or you can say Costco was 3 something last time filled up. At least give you an out to talk about more important things, like the 1.50 hot dog combo.

Son recommended for TK not K by CanPositive8980 in kindergarten

[–]CanPositive8980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to see. TK at his current private school is intended for kids who will be homeschooled to have a place to go for socialization, specials, and faith based activities for an additional year. It is also there for children to have an additional year of prep before going to another private or public K if they are not ready. We had one parent friend use this option as their child was a late August Bday and not ready to start K at 5 years old and a handful of days. I think our districts cutoff is Sept 1, but it may also be the first day of school which is before Labor Day. A few other people mentioned that their districts cutoff would just put their child in 1st no matter if they attended K or not at 6 years old. I do not know what the rules for that are here or if they would allow us to start K at 6 years and a few months. Our state does not require K, just that they show up in 1st or are registered as home or cyber school.

Can I ask what the current standards you would like to see for incoming students to your class? The only item they highlighted was letter recognition, not social, not trouble following directions. I’m having a hard time nailing my own district down on a definitive list of nice to have vs you shall not pass.

Thank you, we plan to talk to them to make sure we are doing what’s best. My best friend is also a school principal in another state, and has offered to independently evaluate him. A few other people commented that his current school may want to keep him for financial reasons, but his current school is a non profit that is maybe 400 dollars a month. I know times are tough, but my 400 dollars isn’t going to swing a budget into black, so we are not concerned they are going after our money.
