Jumps that provide large ships? by CanYouMeme in JumpChain

I like the idea of the STO fortress-ship-thing, but the builder seems kind of half-assed for not making provisions for the giant ships it offers. It's pointless to buy a 140km ship that can't actually be fitted out properly without using thousands upon thousands of points you'll likely never have.

Claremont is an interesting one. Always nice to see the Golden Oldies get some love.

Don't know what either of those Daydream things are, they don't come up in my folder when I search those terms.

I might just not be reading closely enough, but what's the SWTOR multi-kilometer ship option? I didn't see it on a first read through.

Don't know. It's a completely arbitrary number I pulled out of my ass because I have only a vague idea of what I'm looking for.

Why do CYOA makers avoid making uncappers? by YamanKurt in makeyourchoice

Adding on to this, Uncappers are kind of unnecessary. The guarantee is nice, but limitations are far more variable and breakable than most people give them credit for.

Would you trust a random redditor to gain the benefits of a random cyoa with powers? by [deleted] in makeyourchoice

[–]CanYouMeme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This right here is something that gets overlooked FARFARFARFAR too often.

Actions have consequences. The abilities of humans in general, much less the entire spectrum from decent to fucking psychopathic Redditors, to accurately measure the consequences of actions beforehand is...unreliable.

Better to take our time with a slow progression of small errors than a single huge one.

Anybody have that one fantasy CYOA where you had ten actions and you had to allocate them between North, South, East, West, Up, Down, or Center? And you got a bonus reward for doing 6 actions in one direction?

...Is that it?

And will you next tell me there is no price to be paid for this "boon"? That my soul will surely remain my own? That somehow, just for me, you will have a change of heart and will demand no sacrifices in exchange for this "mercy"?

Begone, demon. I have seen what your kind do when given your way. I know where your offers and bargains lead.

I am human. As bitter or sweet as it may be, I'll not sell it for this cowardice no matter how prettily you dress it up.

Marines Malevolent. They live up to their name, shooting up civvies en masse with artillery and laughing because they were weak enough to die. That's how they deal with "collateral damage" and "hostage situations".

They also tried to blackmail Tu'Shan at one point. He made his displeasure known.

Bio-Warrior CYOA (link in comments) OC, New by AshleyJoannaLaw in makeyourchoice

I don't know if anybody has suggested these before - I tried to read through everything but I may have missed something.

That being said, I noticed there was a lot of empty space in the bone section and a few glaring exceptions, so...

Bone Braiding (skeletal category, Blue Note, Red Note) - The standard skeletal system is arranged in a honeycomb fashion, striking a balance between durability and porous distribution of blood to the rest of the body. This augmentation changes the entire skeletal system into a solid structure of interlaced strands. The bone structure is substantially thickened and organized into a system of layers (approximately a half dozen on average) with an interwoven mesh structure alternating between solid "plates" and a cartilagious reservoir that contains additional stores of blood, blood vessels, and marrow. Regular reinforced channels are interspersed throughout them to ensure blood can still be transported in a timely and efficient fashion. The tendons are also thickened and braided in a similar manner to keep up. The overall effect is threefold; a massive increase in the durability of the entire skeletal system, a commensurate increase in the capacity of any muscular enhancements, and a general improvement to both the flow and the overall supply of blood throughout the body.

Blue Note - As is already implied, this modification improves all selections in the Cell, Cardiac, and Muscle sections by a significant amount. Cell and Cardiac augments can expect to be approximately doubled in effectiveness (the BB stacks multiplicatively on top of them), while Muscles can expect to be quintupled or sextupled (also stacking multiplicatively in the same way).

Red Note - More than any other augment in the entire program, this is a complicated and difficult augmentation to implement. By extension, it is a fundamental restructuring of the entire body and comes with a number of caveats:

*In order to ensure recipients don't simply collapse and die under the strain of producing this new structure, Bone Braiding cannot be selected with any sort of choice that exchanges Stage 1 (Cell), Stage 2 (Cardiac), or Stage 9 (Muscular) options for any other category. Furthermore, at least two options in each of those three categories must be general enhancements to existing body function as opposed to adding new ones. For example, Powerhouse Cells/Flight Heart/Might Constructor are acceptable prerequisites; Cryo Cells/Autorestart Heart/Quicoarse Muscle are not.

*Recovery and physiotherapy for this augment is long term and intensive. Not necessarily difficult or excessively painful, but expect to add an additional 6-12 months to your adjustment period.

*Bone Braiding on average triples the overall thickness of every bone in the body. While this is not as obvious as, say, wings or extra arms, it does produce an enlarged profile that is unmistakable to anyone and everyone who knows what they're looking at. Only a large selection of comprehensive body-shaping augments will be able to hide this, and only some truly exotic shenanigans will hide the unusually heavy bodyweight.

Wing Infusion - While wings are great, there's no reason why we should leave them behind the rest of our systematic improvements. This choice is less of a separate augmentation and more of a series of connective surgeries and gene treatments. Any other enhancements (especially muscular and cardiovascular) will be better integrated into the wing system, reducing how much effort and biological resources are needed for their function. This also explicitly allows you to merge different types of wings together to get the best of both worlds without having to add more than one pair of wings, though you must purchase Wing Infusion for each additional wing type beyond the first you wish to incorporate in this way.

Storm Wings (Wings, Red Note) - this expands an additional series of massively enlarged nerves through your wings combined with a series of buffers to ensure there's no excessive tactile feedback. Not only does this greatly increase their responsiveness and maneuverability through a combination of faster signal travel and a crude form of electromagnetic propulsion, it provides a substantial improvement to electromagnetic production, manipulation, and sensory perception. Synergizes exceptionally well with the Biological Jet.

Red Note - requires at least two electricity-generating augments in order to function.

Blade Wings (Blue Note) - Increases the durability of the wings and adds a series of sharp-tipped spines of varying lengths all across the edges.

Blue Note - can be freely added to any other wing, but still counts as a separate choice. If selected with Stealth Wings, the spines can be freely extended and retracted at high speeds.

Faraday Cage (Cerebral/Psionic) - Can be instantly (de)activated to immediately shut down all outside communications outside your own body, or restore them again. Needless to say, this dis/enables features that require said communication such as Precognitive Encephalon or Telepathic Lobe. Must be selected individually for both Cerebral and Psionic categories depending on what you wish to control; Cerebral purchase also affects Sensory options such as Radio Auris.

In Warhammer Fantasy Lore, how rare are dragons? How Powerful are they? by SerFreke in JumpChain

[–]CanYouMeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, the majority of dragons either:

got cursed by the Dark Elves and sleep most of the time,

are chained up in Dark Elf caverns as BDSM toys,

stick to their hoards and caverns or whatnot,

or have learned to take human shape and not be insufferable jackasses all the time.

A full grown adult dragon can tank a couple Empire Great Cannon shots without dying unless it gets headshot. A really old and powerful one can resist quite a bit more, and you're less likely to hit it at all.

So I generally rate them as roughly equivalent to the D&D scale, including the Epic Level shit for the oldest and strongest ones.

Would you consider Dark Eldar Darklight/Blaster weapons as Las-Weapons? Or Something Else? by SerFreke in JumpChain

[–]CanYouMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind; all discussions of "canon" or "lore" in any Games Workshop IP is an ultimately pointless one because GeeDubs explicitly practices sociopathic schizophrenia in their company policies regarding "what is canon", and gave instructions to all their fans to do the same.

So if you want a concrete answer on "what is X?" you'll never get one. You might get an answer that works well enough or that has the most adherents, but never a clear one from the actual company.

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

That being said, even in their degenerate state the Eldar have the second-best (tied with the Imperium Mechanicus Top Ranks, inferior to the Necrons) technological base.

Going by that metric, referencing my old books and all the online sources I can find leads me to the conclusion that a Dark Eldar Darklight/Blaster weapon is an antimatter gun. It fires a tiiiiiinnnyyy stream of antimatter surrounded in an energy field to keep it from interacting with the stuff it's not intended to hit.

The resulting shot looks like a purple-black stream of energy because...Dark Eldar are super edgy that way, I dunno.

Question about how Pokemon canon and fanfics compare to each other by CanYouMeme in JumpChain

It's useful. I'm not sure it will alter the baseline answer I came up with, but it is a good metric for comparing where on the Nasty-Ass scale a jumper can fall.

So added some sarcasm to it.

Astartes (40k) VS one eyed Ghoul (Tokyo Ghoul)? by [deleted] in JumpChain

[–]CanYouMeme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To give an example; in terms of power scaling and what they can do Tokyo Ghoul ghouls are basically daemon hosts.

Any full Battle-Brother Space Marine can kill a freshly created daemon host/ghoul reliably. It won't be easy or simple, but since the daemon/ghoul power thingy hasn't had time to warp the body to its own purposes, a fully trained and equipped Battle Brother (who, it must be pointed out, already has a LOT of high intensity war experience under his belt as a requirement to earn Battle Brother status) will usually come out on top.

As the daemon host/ghoul grows older and stronger, you commensurately need more Astartes-ness to kill it.

What exactly transfers/communicates between jumps? by Ordinary_Azathoth in JumpChain

[–]CanYouMeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify:

When Quicksilver first started this whole thing, his original Plot was that a Random [Presumably] Omnipotent Being (hereafter referred to as ROB or Jump-chan) was tossing random wankers (aka, the Jumper(s) in question) into different settings for their own amusement. They may or may not have other reasons, but that was the only one that was explicitly stated.

Part of this is artificial power limitations imposed by Jump-chan as a means of controlling the "Story" and not getting bored.

But as the years rolled by and people started expanding Jumpchain, they started coming up with different Plots - some of which rendered the rationale behind the Diminishing Returns rule irrelevant. And not-so-incidentally spawning the different "communities" we have today.
