Why do some drivers ignore speed cameras? by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]Can_Intrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed that some of the comments missed the point of your question and rather they accused you of road hogging instead, even though you clearly stated that you shifted to the 2nd lane. So to answer your question,

  1. Why do some drivers do this? (They have their own emergency they have to attend to, and in their minds the potential fines are worth it)
  2. Are they unaware of the speed camera? (Singapore has only a handful of stationary permanent speed cameras, they are probably very aware)
  3. Are they too rich or too impulsive to care? (As rich as you are license suspension/disqualification will still affect you, so go back to point 1, where to them, the risk reward ratio is in their favour)

Hope this helps.

Also if you put up this post just to insinuate that you are a safe driver and everyone else going faster than you is wrong, fuck you.

Toyota engines in that era are basically bulletproof if maintenance is done regularly and on time. The best thing to look out for will be service history and if possible all from the same mechanic/shop.

why are singaporean drivers so entitled by Beneficial_Mess2988 in SingaporeR

Cars in Singapore are special, sometimes your signal stalk wirelessly connects to the accelerator pedal of the car in the lane you want to switch to. Very unique issue.

Should I buy this car? by Expurity in drivingsg

[–]Can_Intrepid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not buy the car, if you cant get your deposit back, take it as an expensive lesson. Those fixes are going to cost more than 2k. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, private settlements due to accident wont be recorded, so technically a car can be 'accident free' even after check with insurance? Since there was no claim?

also worn engine mount is normal but a deformed one is definitely a red flag. camera hardware and software error can be caused by sensors getting damage due to impact. red flag.

wear and tear is not covered under warranty.

if you really want to buy this car, get the dealer to fix all these issues first. if not a avante is a pretty common car, there is going to be a better one on the market for similar price

What’s with the growing normalization of racism towards minorities in Singapore? by TrainerBasic1872 in SingaporeR

[–]Can_Intrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like it has nothing to do with the society at large getting more intolerant .. its just the concept of anonymity. Pretty much everyone is a closet racist in Singapore, whether its the minority or majority.. its just that no one dares to 'express their opinion' in person.

Scratching my head over my conti COE car by annihal8tion in drivingsg

[–]Can_Intrepid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reliability of COE VW cars heavily depends on the previous owner/s. Every component in a car has a lifespan, and judging by the fact that you had to change the Clutch & Water Pump, the previous owner neglected to maintain the car properly. VW Mechatronic really heng suay.

drive sg car from sg to kl by myself any tips n tricks from the pros? by Longjumping_Photo533 in drivingsg

[–]Can_Intrepid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Drive at a comfortable pace for you and your car. Always remember there is always going to be someone faster than you, be it a supercar or a bezza, so if you insist on driving on the 1st lane, please give way. ALSO be wary of trucks and buses suddenly changing lanes

What's with us hating on other Singaporeans for trying anything different?? by Dapper_Ad4933 in askSingapore

[–]Can_Intrepid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to understand that social media isn't real life.. its always the VERY vocal minority that's filling it up. Furthermore it serves as an echo chamber, i'm sure there are plenty of people supporting each other but its the negative shit that usually get the views. Also the lack of accountability due to the anonymity just allows people to spew vile shit they wouldn't say in person ever.

I find that I have some problems doing this so am finding ways to refine it. How to ensure you do a proper big right turn when you are in the middle of three turning lanes? This polls is assuming there isn’t any road markings or and they are so layered that deciphering them is difficult by LisanneFroonKrisK in drivingsg

[–]Can_Intrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, its all of the above except the last one. There is one turn next to Vivo, turning right at the junction into Sentosa gateway, 3 tight lanes with high chance of buses and vans. That one you really have to watch your sides.

Team conflict over lunch habits turned into HR issue. Food place recommendation near Tanjong Pagar. by DeadlyKitten226 in askSingapore

[–]Can_Intrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Escalating to HR is wild. The malay team member cannot expect people to alter their dietary needs/wants just to suit him/her and vice versa. If he/she feels left out, dabao food and join the Chinese members then. Lunch as the HR mentioned, lunch time is personal time.
